Reminds me of organized religion and orthodoxy. I have a difficult personality in the first place. I can see where a group or organized ride would take all the joy out of cycling for me.

The Audax Club Parisien (ACP), one of the oldest cycling clubs in the world, had an acrimonious split in 1920 on just that topic, and only just recently do the resulting two organizations get along.
