I've always worn some sort of eyeglasses and often where sunglasses over them. I was once riding at speed over a bridge in Toronto Canada when my left sunglass lens was struck hard by some large bug. the impact was so great that it broke the lens. I dread to think what would have happened if that had hit an unprotected eye.
I think that eye protection whilst riding a bicycle is a good idea.
Cheers

Always. Essential when mountain biking and gravel but I have had a few large bugs whack my glasses hard when road cycling. I wear prescription lenses nowadays, so I don't really have a choice but I have always worn glasses when cycling.

Depends on what one would call protection. My prescription glasses have allowed the occasional gnat or similar insect to get by but are better than nothing. For longer rides, I feel I get better protection from my wrap around Oakley sunglasses with stick on bifocal lenses. The Oakleys are Z87 rated and are advertised to provide a degree of UV protection. I've had them for probably 10 years and the stick on bifocal lenses are cheap enough.

I've worn glasses pretty religiously ever since I had a rock, kicked up by a passing semi, hit my glasses going 40+ kph
Now I bring a set of sunnies with interchangeable lenses, clear lenses for dark, mirror lens for daytime. There's usually some iteration of these floating around on Amazon or Ebay for $30, and they last me about a year (including wearing them running, at work, skiing, etc)

I've had bugs go SPLAT on the lenses... Much easier cleaning eyewear vs eyeballs imo.

Love my helmet with the magnet clip on polycarbonate eye shields - yellow for night / cloudy / rainy riding, dark and polarized for sunny days. Works perfectly, and since the fit close to the face is very good I don't worry about rain, rocks, or bugs getting in at my face.

Between dirt, small pebbles, small insects, cold air, and bright sunshine, eye protection is essential. I have been wearing the same Oakley Juliet sunglasses since 1998, they are pretty much indestructible, I replace the lenses from time to time, and sometimes have to replace the bushings to keep the frame tight, but even with these costs, they are a better value than buying a new pair of glasses every year or so. In the case of plastic Oakleys, they seldom last a full year with me.

$15-20 at Walmart. If you loose them or they break just buy another set. The more you pay the faster you'll loose them--mathematical fact.

I don't know how many people are wearing eye protection when I'm out on my ride, I'm just glad that I am.

I for one am always concerned about protecting my eyes while riding. Not only from UV rays but also from Bugs, bees, flies and any other flying objects while I'm out riding. Riding along at 18 to 21mph and getting hit by a flying insect/bug/bee is not my idea of fun. I've been hit numerous times on the face and they do sting a bit. It just makes me glad that I wore my sunglasses or if it's dark and gray my clear glasses. In addition, if you get caught out in a rain shower/storm it's nice to have something covering your eyes.

Even with safety glasses… a rock from a car tire hit hard enough to shove the glasses into my cheek. Glasses didn’t break, though.

how does everybody feel about the helmets that have an integrated visor, like a giro vanquish? I very much dislike wearing glasses of any kind, always have, never wear them, and hate the idea of yet another thing to take on every ride. We don’t have a lot of bugs here but I’ve definitely taken a few bees to the face this year.

Did you know all of the people you were close behind before passing or close across in the opposing direction on 8-10 foot wide MUPs? We were the area where old people my age were the first to die.

Riding in Shanghai isn't bad. Most roads have dedicated bike lanes separated from the car traffic by either fences or medians, which means you don't have to interact with cars except at intersections in most cases. Lots of good riding roads especially out in more rural areas in the suburbs (at least as rural as Shanghai gets). You do have to ride a long way to get away from the city traffic, though, and there are a lot of traffic lights which can be annoying. Summer weather is oppressively hot and humid, so lots of water is definitely required when riding in the summer. Spring and Fall are beautiful for riding, and winters aren't that cold with little to no snow (lots of rain, though) so it is possible to ride year round. I'm originally from Canada so I do miss true wilderness riding, but I make do.

I always wear sunglasses and have found that Smith and Wesson tinted shooting glasses work best for my needs. They are inexpensive, easy to find at most sporting goods store and block a good deal of wind.

All the time. Helps with glare and UV rays but like you alluded to getting a bug or dirt in your eye going 20+ MPH is simply dangerous and really hurts lol. I also started wearing them since COVID. You don't need anything expensive but just something that fits you properly and doesn't fog up
