eBay / CraigsList finds - "Are you looking for one of these!?" Part II

This local fellow just posted several interesting bikes tonight. I'm interested in how some of you feel about his pricing (I think too high) and I think some aren't what he claims they are (i.e. Austro Diamler). So look them over and tell me what you think and what they are valued in your opinion.

$900 RARE vintage Colnago "Victory" racing road bike - $900 (downtown greenville)
Gorgeous 1981 Colnago Victory.
Rare frame decals and paint in exquisit condition!
This bike was purchased from The Great Escape bike shop in Anderson (now closed) in 1981.
It has a full group of Campangnolo Victory series components.
Unfortunately the original seat and seatpost were removed by the owner's son because it was "uncomfortable"...
I have left the vintage speedometer and bar tape (padding) on the bike since that is all vintage goodies from the original date of purchase...
pretty cool bike

$1,200 RARE 1974 antique racing bicycle Geoffrey Butler custom - $1200 (downtown greenville)
Read the story below. Wow, $1,500 for a frame in 1974! Was this guy crazy or what? That's $7,103 in todays dollars. Tall tale? I think maybe so. What's this worth guys?
https://greenville.craigslist.org/bik/4895602019.html
In 1974 it was originally purchased by a bicycle shop owner in Manhattan. He had seen it at a bike show in New England. The original owner bought the frame for $1,500 and then bought a full set of Campagnolo Super Record and Shimano Dura-Ace groupos.
Not only was he spending a crazy sum of money on the frame, but he was putting asian parts on it!!!!! In 1974 Japanese parts were still considered non-race grade components... cheap to say the least. But it was in those early years that Shimano was making their move into the racing scene.
The reason the owner bought both Campy and Dura-ace was to compare the weights of each component... and compare he did! He obsessed over each part and selected each one to make the lightest mix possible while adding in many titanium parts as well (which was EXTREMELY exotic for that time period!!!)
He did several other things to lighten up the frame like having the brake levers drilled out.
And lastly, he ordered wheel and pedal sets from a little company in Tennessee that is now gone.... but at the time was king of light weight. (I think the company spelled its name "Weighless"? I had the parts identified by a 42 year old bike shop in my area... the old mechanics there were drooling over them).
What he ended up with was a steel framed race bike that weighs 19.5 pounds.... INSANELY light weight! ........Even by todays standards (41 years later) this bike is CRAZY lightweight!!!!!
He remembers that it was 1974 because as soon as the bike was built up he rode it home by the New York channel. And on that day, the replicas of the Nina, Pinta, and the Santa Maria were sailing up the harbor in preparation for the 1976 bicentennial. As he was riding along he was watching the three ships sail up the harbor and he hit a street sign and broke his collar bone and WALKED his bike back to his flat instead of taking it to the hospital because he knew it wouldn't be safe at the hospital.
Cool bike... cool parts... cool story...

Project... Vintage Koga Miyata
Interesting finds, @kdresch. Of the entire lot, I find the Geoffrey Butler to be the most interesting (and the Colnago the least). My naive view is that between $1000 and $1200 would be a decent price for that bike; between $800 and $1000 would be better.

One thing he said on his pricing...he intentionally went a bit high..."to filter out the riff-raff"...not a bad idea on bikes like this. I think he has, overall, a realistic thought on pricing...the 93 BL was at $150...which, for that model, seems about right.

I must be getting dyslexic in my advancing age...
I thought that Merckx was a steal at just $1200.
At $2100? Dream on. Pass.

I don't think 2100 is that outrageous for it...but it's ambitious, and unlikely to sell on Craigslist.

I really want a Leader, (and that one is my size) but I can agree - Just cant justify 2100 or anything close. Never hurts to start high though if time is on your hands :+)

Again - in that condition asking price seems about right, though it's unlikely to sell on CL. It's got top end gear and the frame would sell over a thousand on eBay...easy. The wheels/seatpost are around $500.

I'm sure it will sit there for quite a while on CL - it's not the right venue.
Can he sell it for pretty close to that number? I think so. Will it happen on CL? Probably not. There aren't that many people looking for a Merckx MXL on CL - you need a wider net to sell a bike like that, or a targeted net. Those of us who would want it on CL expect a steep discount on CL.

I live in this guys town and have written him 2 carefully worded emails about his bikes. No answer so far. The last email said I would like to buy the Cannondale Black Lightning, what's next? No answer. I'm glad you two are communicating - please tell him to answer emails from folks that live next door to him. Or did you get a phone no.?
I have started talking to this guy about his bikes...he also has a couple of mountain bikes and a 1993 Cannondale Black Lightning for sale. He seems to be on the up and up...with some limited knowledge. Someone mentioned that this might be a tall tale about the Geoffrey Butler...it might be, but, it can also be what he was told...so...I would not be too judgmental on that one.
I sent him a very detailed email with lots of questions...and got good responses to each...
One thing he said on his pricing...he intentionally went a bit high..."to filter out the riff-raff"...not a bad idea on bikes like this. I think he has, overall, a realistic thought on pricing...the 93 BL was at $150...which, for that model, seems about right.
