Hello from Amesbury!
Two weeks ago I got a bicycle after a long time without one. I'm doing some exploring now.

Decided to ride long yesterday, mostly to build stamina for a 5-day tour next month. I was pretty toasted by the end (or really at about mile 73), and was reminded that the best way to build stamina is to ride a lot!

Today's ride began at 2:10AM and was a Birthday Celebration Ride of a different sort It's was 96 years ago my mom was born so I rode the last 2 digits of the year of her Birth - 1928 plus a bit extra for a Palindrome Distance. After yesterday's 44.44 mile ride this soon to be 74yo body was only able to perform a short ride. BTW, my bike is a 1982 DAHON 20" wheel 6 speed with rear rack - basket mounted and tools + lock = 40+ pounds.

28.82 mi Distance -- 2:08:45 Moving Time -- 2:10:03 Elapsed Time -- 13.4 mi/h Avg Speed -- 22.9 mi/h Max. Speed

I was planning on leading a club ride tonight. Weather is beautiful, sunny and warm. 19 mile route from the Upstate into NC and looping back.
Problem is, the pollen count is so terribly high today I can barely breathe. I hate pollen season.

Rode to work today. 10 mile round trip. Beautiful out. Went through neighborhoods, parking lots and bike paths.

Cheers,

112km today. The ride to Tokyo Bay was once again into a strong headwind, but once I turned the corner into Kasai Rinkai park, it became easier. I did my strongest pace in the final 20km through the city toward home. I’m pretty beat, but looking forward to my next ride.

The day isn’t over yet, my daughter will get home soon, and I have to take her to her piano lesson and math tutoring class using another bike, so I’ve still got another 10km of riding to get under my belt.

April 22 I rode the Rohloff14 tour bike NNE to Gibbons, 64 miles to start the season. Saw 6 other older guys on the highway, the last one had a super CF race bike. DQ lunch. Did 41 mph on my fave hill.
May 14 I rode same bike South to Wetaskiwin and filled out a 100.2 miles. Who needs prep?? LOL. Got stiff, tired and usual 5 lbs dehydrated, but no cramps. Not bad 11 hours clock, 8:28 moving. Weird how the crosswind slows me both directions. Couldn't even perk up much on the 6 mile freeway part. A+W lunch.
Both days a nice partly cloudy 60sF with light wind. Only took a few pics, so I'll post these from last year.

Nothing like home is there? You’re in a beautiful area. Many days of great riding weather out west.

16 muggy miles today.
There was a bike rally out of Cedar Hill Tx this morning going opposite my ride. I've ridden it several times in the past.
Very well supported, and lots of nice perks with that one, including free charcoal burgers and 2 free cold beers at the completion.

Hopefully, by this time next year my health will be back to somewhat normal, and I can get back to riding that.

Heh, it's a fun way to end a long hot ride for sure.
My son in law always rides with me on these organized rides. He's a horse. We've ridden the Italy Tx ride quite a few times. It was always the most demanding. They offer ice cream at the end of their ride.

Most of these charity rides offer three routes of roughly 20, 40, and the metric century (63). The Cedar Hill ride has a long fun downhill, but you have to climb it to get back to the start. The Singleton road downhill is a blast, but riding back up is a challenge.

My wife rode with me the last time I did the Cedar Hill ride. We opted for the 40 mile route. We were both into our late 60s by then. My son in law did the 63 miler and arrived back at the same time we did.
My excuse to that was that my wife treated a rest stop like it was a grocery store with free samples. We spent way too long at rest stops.

I am about to turn 66 so my ambitions have lowered.

Was going to do a night ride tonight, but got impatient waiting for the sun to set so decided just to do an evening ride. The tourists have gone home for the day and it's nice and peaceful out. Wind around 15 MPH which isn't bad for this area. I went sans pump and water bottle so I cut my ride short and only did 16 miles instead of my planned 25 mile route. Still a great ride. While I've been a strong proponent of flat pedals, I have to admit it sure is nice being back in the clipless,

I drove to the cemetery (to see my parents&grandparents) with my BMX and rode around a bit on the paved paths/roads.

Looks like you had a perfect night for a ride. It’s a busy week so it looks like I won’t be able to ride until Sunday or Monday. In the meantime I’ll enjoy the posts and pics here.

Cheers,

Scott

I rode earlier for only 6 miles/ 1 lap around my local lake mup. I had a layoff for a shoulder issue and needed to get my legs back used to
pedaling. I also needed to sort out some saddle changes. It was a nice day to ride- about 85*.
I would have made a couple more laps but it is really windy, especially coming over the water. There were whitecaps out there, 20-25mph.
Tomorrow should be better. I may explore the river trail tomorrow but if the wind is blowing half of the 15 mile loop will be into a wind funneled down the rover channel.
