...conditions are pretty good here right now. Might go for another ride to celebrate the holiday. Partly cloudy, no rain, high in the low 50's.
Meanwhile, just an two hours up US 50, right after the last big storm blew through, some poor guy who split his time at age 66 between Point Reyes and Truckee, thought he had hit the lottery jackpot by getting in one of the first runs of the season under the K-22 lift at Palisades. (This is the old Squaw Valley area, combined with Alpine Meadows now, I think.)
That K-22 terrain is cliffs and rocks. Looks like something you'd see in a James Bond movie. Nice fresh snow is the only way most people can manage it, otherwise you fall and slide most of the rest of the way down.
Avalanche got him. I know there will be someone at the funeral who says, "He died doing what he loved." But I don't think getting caught in an avalanche was what he loved.

I had all his albums by the time I went away to college. Made wall art out of the covers, and came in handy for cleaning duties.

Damn it. I wasn’t going to have ice cream tonight but now I gotta.
40 and wet in the am tomorrow, i’ll take the rain bike out. I should do intervals but I got zero sleep this trip and feel pretty beat up. I think zone 2 will be the answer. The next day temperature is supposed to be 18. Looking like 30-30 with 15 second rest. I’ll be frozen by the end of that and won’t be able to do much more.
The old madone shifting has gone to ****. The cables are new but the cable sleeves are old, like really old. I’m thinking about switching everything out, but I hate the bars that are on it. To put new cables would require the internal routing through the bars plus new tape and I don’t want to invest that time and money on those.
Anybody have 42 bars on here? Preferably aeroish carbon or aluminum. This is the rain bike/ race rig.

Meanwhile, in NorCal, I just mowed the lawn for the second time in 2024, in a break between rainy days.

yea, I’ve looked at them, not sure how I feel about them yet. Also that shipping time is ridiculous.
The super light frame set they make looks really good. If I ever get an itch to build a super light bike for the climbing that I do, maybe.
