Retro roadies- old frames with STI's or Ergos
#3452
Me too. I've always wanted to do this to a classic frame, but I wanted to wait for something special and was forced to ogle everyone else's bike on this thread until something came along. Now that my Paletti is in the club I've got to say it was with the wait. Nice bikes everyone!

Hey guys,
This is my first post here on the CV forum, but I've been lurking for a while. My name is Thomas, and I recently graduated from UBC and UGR, now I work for Microsoft in Boulder, CO.
Browsing this forum is very inspirational and the main reason I went in this direction for this bike. Originally equipped with Suntour Radius, 7s indexed downtube shifting.
Without further ado, my Bianchi Eros road bike. It's a replacement for a Cannondale Synapse with 10s 105 components that got stolen while I was in school.
She's a dream to ride, and I love her.

Riding like its 1990
Thanks Calamarichris! 2014 will bring more riding, less wrenching! Better pics soon.

I was told I should post this here.
Sorry for the indoor photo, I'll take better ones outside tomorrow.
I finally finished building this and I'm pretty stoked on it.
1996 Eddy Merckx Strada. It was a spare bike for a team in Belgium at the time (still has sponsor's stickers on it).
2006 Campy Record 10 speed w/ 2001 Campy Record cranks (to match the polished look).
Paul Components seatpost
Cinelli Giro D'Italia bars and stem
Look pedals (with matching hiviz paint!)
Brooks Cambium saddle
H+Son TB14s laced to White Industries T11 hubs.
Clement Strada 25c gumwalls

The original poster asked for a Guerciotti with modern Ergo so here goes:
Columbus SL frame, repainted, new decals, with 10s Campy component group.
How about this one? 47cm frame, extra small. I rescued it from Craigslist for $100. It was an incredibly early Guerciotti, repainted during '80's with hideous neon colors and brazeons added. I cleaned it up and rebuilt it with Ergos. Orders of magnitude too small, so I passed it on a good home.
Check out the original early '70's headbadge, which predates any Guerciotti logo I've ever seen.

How have I missed a thread containing such beauty?
I have aspirations of possibly this summer picking up something and building it over the next year, I love the old Bianchi frames but might see what I can get an old Trek for.
And I don't have current pics, but my drop bar converted MTB has STI's on it. Granted it is Shimano 2300's but it's something!

A friend and I built this, an 80's-something Tommaso. It was given to him by a friend, with some Campy and Shimano parts hanging off of it, very little rust, paint whacked, and the shiny decals in poor condition. We confirmed the SLX tubing with the original decals, and he ordered repro's. His '04 KHS Flite Aero 700 had an FD bracket break, so he decided to tackle this while he looked around.
Things came together well, and I remembered some Ultegra 6500 hubs (one from a BF member), so he decided to get the wheels built as well. It's smooth as silk, 22 lbs. He had it blasted and coated locally, and one of his friends made the decals to order. I can't wait to get on the road with him and my white Ironman re-do.
Kirk's Tommaso:
56cm x 56cm Columbus SLX frame/fork.
Campagnolo headset (cleaned up so well, it was kept)
Cannondle C1 stem and seatpost, Toupe 135 saddle, FSA compact bars.
9-sp 6500 Ultegra shifters, FD, RD, hubs, calipers, crankset, BB.
Jagwire Race cable/housing, DT Swiss 585 rims/DT Swiss spokes, GP4000 tires.
Elite Gel cages, DA cable stops, Forte pedals.

Excuse the crappy picture but this is a 90 s alu frame I picked up on eBay for peanuts, a far cry from some of the nice classics posted here but anyhow, fitted it out with a 105 groupset and stronglight headset.
converted the tube shifters to the 105 brifters and chucked my aero bars on.
really nice to ride but mainly used for my turbo trainer.
