Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That’s horrible. I grew up thinking Jägermeister was an old German guy thing because of my father and was amazed when I found out the youngs drank it.

I love Jager, but I prefer to sip it at room temp instead of refrigerated shots like most folks, or dumped into a Redbull like the youngs do.

Back around the turn of century in Portland there was a bar called Apotheke that only served liqueurs along the lines of Jager. There was a sandalwood one which smelled amazing, but drinking sandalwood booze was kinda weird.

Back when I drank lots of Coke, I'd often order a pint of coke and a Jager, dump the Jager into the coke and the flavour approximated that of a Moxie.

Do they make a horrible clicking sound at the top of each pedal stroke, feels like the cleat is about to pop out, and you have the tension all the way tight?

Really wanted to hit 8000 miles this morning. I commute out for work today, and don’t come home til Friday. My legs have been feeling good even with the extra effort this past week.

Rain started at 10 pm last night, and it hasn’t stopped. I don’t have an issue riding in the rain, but it’s been a down pour the whole time.

A solid line aimed at my house.

No- are you using the cleats that came with the pedals or something else? I had a replacement set of Keo cleats that were not the “Garmin” brand and they squeaked and felt loose. Is your cleat itself loose?

My cousin from Germany was visiting a few years ago and asked me why Jägermeister was so popular here. I had no answer since I'm a non-drinker but he also stated that it was an old man's drink.

I bought the garmin rally spd sl pedals. I’m using shimano yellow cleats. I didn’t see the point of switching cleats, they should work fine. It’s only the left cleat that is making noise, it does it with both shoes. Ironically the left clear in both cases is in best shape, I use my right foot when I stop. I have increased the tension incrementally, each time the noise would stop but eventually came back. I now have it tensioned all the way and the noise is still there. The left pedal has always had more float than the right, even at max tension. I am pretty sure something is wrong, and it’s not me.

I was hoping I could just email garmin, but I will have to call them today.

Not sure if this is a factor, but I recall hearing back in the early 90’s that the drink contained hallucinogenic herbs and that was why it was becoming so popular with the younger crowd.

I always thought of Jagermeister as a drink of the Pall Mall crowd. Until LoP began reporting on it.

This reminds me of the fad of putting a stick of gum between the banana and the peel and leaving it there for a day or two.. And the theory that lettuce hearts contain opium.

Plop plop fizz fizz.
Once again, it feels like it took too long for me to come around. Here in Yucatan, we are on the twice yearly intestinal parasites maintenance plan. That's for the middle class, indicated by the fact that the treatment is sold at Costco. My personal plan, out here in the sticks, is more like three times a year. The onset is indicated by groups of symptoms with no real explanation. This time I've been struggling with excess gas and digestive distress for a little over a week. Too long for it to not let up. My morning coffee began causing problems. Then, in the last couple days, I picked up a case of hives on my upper arms, shoulders and neck. This morning it finally dawned on me, and I should be on the mend directly.
Something to keep in mind if/when you spend any time south of the border. I find it interesting that this was never an issue(for us) in Belize.

Never heard of that one but people I knew tried smoking banana peels. I don't think it worked. Remember "Supergrass"? Legal herb that was supposed to substitute for the real thing. I tried it, it didn't do anything.

I did smoke Pall Malls on and off. King size with no filter, you could smoke them right down to the end. I think there was one other big brand like that, maybe Chesterfield? Sherman cigarettes weren't a big thing back then but I did try them, gnarly. It wasn't until people started putting Angel Dust on them that they became well known.

Less alcohol than "real" booze, sweeter than "real" booze, and tastes foul enough to be "manly" drinking shots.

I knew a guy who was a functioning alcoholic. He used to drink lots of it many nights. His roommate told me the guy would put it in his morning coffee before work.

At some point he fell off a balcony during a party and was about the receive a big settlement. (I don't know the details of the fall.) Unfortunately for him, he died of liver failure before the settlement was finalized.

I wondered if it would. You remember when the term "Sherms" came around? I didn't know what they were talking about for a long time, I thought they just meant the cigarettes until someone explained it to me. You could buy Sherman cigs individually at some stores and then soak them with that stuff and sell them on the street. I heard all this long after my mis-spent youth.

I never heard of it until long after I had quit drinking. The internet says it is 35% alcohol, or 70 proof. About the same as Tuaca, which was the favorite of one of my ho girlfriends.
All those liqueurs make me gag. Sloe gin, Southern Comfort, gag. I did like Kahlua, though. A little.
