Preschool ride was suuuuuper windy. Even if I could work out the logistics for the n00b century tomorrow, similar conditions might make it more challenging than I'd like. Hell, heading into the wind, I rode primarily in the granny ring, and this was on flat ground. I don't care what others say - it's a bit frustrating to me when I see 300w+ getting me ~14mph.

BTW, I have been in friendly contact with our dearly departed Seeds, and he reassures me he did not go away angry, he just went away. BF was apparently a bit too much of a distraction from other more important issues in his life. I told him I would let the gang know he is ok.

Thoughts after catching up on the past few pages:
It has been a long, busy week for me, and reading up on the past few pages has been a bit of a relief of sorts. I might not take part very much, but I agree with sbxx that the thread can be- and often is- a motivator to get out on the bike more often. There's been a lot of road work going on around the main highway I have to traverse to get to work, and the weather has been unbearable in the afternoons. Luckily, the road work has finished, and the weather should be changing soon. Back to bike commuting I shall go!
Sorry to see Seedsbelize go.
There's a restaurant around here that makes a great appetizer from roasted chilled beets, grapefruit, balsamic vinegar, and salt and pepper. I've made a knock-off version at home, and it's very refreshing.

It happens to everyone in this thread that has been around for a while. It gets a bit much and/or irritating and you leave.
For me, coming back is motivating, which makes leaving in a huff counterproductive. I want to hit next season running, which means I can't pork up this winter. Listening to people riding and racing, and folks like LAJ and HP that are racing at a high level, is motivating to me. I can find a million excuses over the winter. I want to lose weight instead of gaining weight. LAJ is preparing beet milkshakes.

Next season started today. FTP test and I didn't fubar it. It's the best number I've put up, and since I have less of me to haul up that same hill, it allows me to be more optimistic. The only bad thing about a good number is training is going to be a little tougher.... Vicious little circle, but if we wanted easy, we sure wouldn't have picked this sport.

I drink so few milkshakes, there's no way I'll infect one with beets. I drink that crap straight, just so I can get it over with. Bad thing about them is they work best if you drink it first thing in the morning, with a dirty mouth (pre brushing, not my potty mouth).

Thanks sbxx. As someone that wasn't really an athlete by any stretch of the imagination growing up, or even through life, this stuff continues to be eye opening to me. The dedication needed that's equal to what I have in regards to Mrs. LAJ. or my trade, is OK, and I'm lucky I get latitude in that regard. If that's motivating to others, that's the cherry on top.

It never gets easier.
Kudos on trimming down. Cycling is all about weight ratios.
In other news, today is new bike day - allegedly.

I have always had a bike, when needs demanded it, or time allowed it, which certainly wasn't always. Sad, because as I was working on my car, I would watch Ron Keifel ride up towards the hills, and always wondered what his story was. High school was about cars, not bikes!
Cubic miles have never been an issue, but the fast miles have been a bit tougher to master. Once training took hold, becoming competitive in the Cat 4 50+ bunch became a reality. Bumping up to Cat 3 was a kick in the gut, simply because that's open category, and those pesky ex TDF and Olympic athletes are in there. Now I'm racing 60+, and it's no less daunting, but I'm gaining on those rascals. Racing age 61, to answer your question.
