As an FYI, the "Italian Road Bike" IE: Cinelli bike on Portland is not a genuine Cinelli: Italian road bike 56cm
There are a number of questionable signs such as the lack of ever using the actual word, "Cinelli" (although it is in keywords). The BB cutouts, the lack of "fastback" seat stays that Cinelli uses ubiquitously along with the fork crown and decal placements.

Calling the seller out yielded the following information, "this bike started life as a Performance Campione (See link). I didn't like the Performance Bike brand so I changed it. Cinelli owns Columbus, so I took some creative license (I planned on keeping this bike). That's a lot to explain in an ad, I would explain to anyone coming to look at the bike. You'll notice I marketed it as an Italian road bike, which it is. There is no serial number because the bikes were built up with components selected by the purchaser. I bought the bike from the original owner."

I do appreciate the honesty of the seller but informed him that he should be more up front that this is not a true Cinelli.

Not trying to salt the sellers sale but just posting for clarification. So, heads up to anyone out there possibly going to check this bike out.

EDIT: Seller has updated the ad to reflect the frame history.

It's not often that the name of the company that made the bike is stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket, as is the case with the BMZ made "Cinelli". Yeah, you're right, it's shady. He might be explaining it to the guy who called him on it, but others won't know as well as you do that it isn't a cinelli.

Agreed on all fronts. Cinelli didn't always stamp their name on the BB (sometimes they just drilled holes, etc.) but there are other clear indicators. But still, I feel fairly strong in my identification abilities and it took me a bit of research to completely confirm this not being a Cinelli. Another person may not have the time/ability to do so and be bit by it under a false assumption.

Although, after speaking with the seller in-depth, they were accommodating to update the ad, so, good on them.

1973 Takara Grand Prix

Good looking bike, nice lug work:

https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/bik/5816636538.html

Takara is a Japanese toy company, noted for introducing a line of convertible action figures which Hasbro would later market under the name 'Transformers'. In the 70s, their vast range of products included a line of bicycles as well. This bike doesn't turn into anything cooler than the sassy ride it is, but you can feel like a superhero riding it. It's newly built with a tasteful mix of period and new components.

-57cm sport/touring style frame, seamless CrMo butted tubing, about equivalent to Tange 2. Super pretty headtube lugs! Suntour GS dropouts, and a rather regal looking Tange Falcon headset.
-Sugino Mighty bottom bracket, Shimano Deore XT crank arm - 110bcd, new FSA chainrings 50/34. new 12-28 Shimano freewheel, new SRAM chain.
-Suntour V-gt rear der, Suntour SL front(note: I am willing to substitute more modern derailleurs if you prefer them, but I find the higher end Suntour gear from this period exceptionally durable, light and classy looking), Shimano bar end shifters, 2x5 friction, can switch to 7spd index.
-Pretty white vintage Dia-compe aero levers, New Tektro R559 dual hinge sidepull calipers.
-Specialized Romin saddle
-Handsome vintage Bluemels fenders
-Heavy duty handbuilt custom wheelset: Rigida Explorer rims(thick double wall alloy, V profile) on 36 hole Ofmega(rebranded for Avocet) cartridge bearing hubs(low miles on recent bearings), 14ga spokes on front, 13ga on rear. I built these for trail riding or hauling a load. They can take just about anything, great for a heavy rider or whatever you can dish out. No joke, 36holes x 13ga spokes = seriously bombproof. Tires: Panaracer UrbanMax(great puncture resistance!) 700c x 32mm. Alternate tires available: WTB All-Terrain-O-saurus, also 32mm w/ small knobbed tread.

You thought $2000 pedals were lunacy.

How about a brake lever for $1195.

These were most likely in the same run, and I would think their frame serial numbers would be very close. At $300+shipping (can't calculate somehow?), with essentially every component there--this includes a lot of New Superbe Pro--that's a great deal for a gem of a frame. Looks dent free, just need to Goo-Gone the extra decals, compound, and wax the frame, and I'll bet it'll be good to go. Plus you get all that great SP.

Somebody buy this or convince me not to.

This would look nice next to my tempo's. I agree that it would clean up rather easy. My bike rack is full, tho.

And I have committed to paring down to five bikes, all of which are chosen and built, with not a 'weak' one among them!

I was thinking along the same lines. But my 25" 1987 Tempo is probably nearly identical to this one; just different components.

And cooler paint job.

Dummy brake lever or hand rest. Commonly used for the stoker position handlebar on a tandem.

Listed seller in UK with some interesting vintage goodies.

Starting with a very nice lot of original press release photos. Has a nice offering of rare catalogs, brochures and some of the neatest British cycle touring jackets.
ebbi98 | eBay

RARE Original Bartali Tour Press Photos x 36 Campagnolo Legnano Frejus 40'S | eBay

Extremely rare original 40's Pro Peloton black and white photos.
Including some classics of Gino Bartali and Jean Robic.
Most have the location and rider/s written on the reverse with
'Paris Presse
Service Photographique
100, Rue Richelieu
Paris-2e

I've had these a number of years, prior to which they had been with the same collector for over 50 years.

Most of these are from the 40's. As such they have turned corners etc. But generally, as you can see from the photographs they are in very good condition.

Project road bike and lots of rims

Need to get this stuff out of my shop ASAP. The bike is a 70's Centurion Super Lemans that's in pretty rough shape and has a stuck seat post. Needs to be clamped in a vice and wiggled free. The rims need some kind of work (truing, axles, spokes, etc). Most are vintage Japanese and French rims, with one modern Mavic rear wheel with a Ritchey hub and 9 speed cassette (needs axle and bearings).

$25 takes it all.
The bike appears to still have most of its components including a V-GT Luxe RD. But it's rough!

Man, I am going back and forth on this still. Auction, at least this time, ends in a few days, so I will be keeping an eye on it. I have asked what the serial number is--waiting for a response!

Practical-ish questions go something like: My own '85 is the pinnacle of my fleet with 9s DA, super light wheels, and a killer look and feel--what would I do to differentiate the two other than running this (with slightly rougher paint which I would touch up) with its original pieces? That may be plenty reason enough, espcially as I have later '80s SP brake levers and calipers to make it a 100% SP affair (yes yes I know Dia Compe made them...). Second question is, if I magically get it at $300, plus $50-100, a $350-400 bike nearly complete is certainly less than most of my a la carte builds...so do I want to pay that much for another bike? What about my efforts to pare down my fleet (I have made the commitment to five)? How much would I want to and end up riding it?

So I have some sorting out to do. I aim for decent inherent differentiation (in multiple ways), desire to ride (no collectors or museum pieces), and differentiation of intent (all DA, all Campy, 11s most modern, old school friction shift, color/visual composition, etc).

Hot off the presses, an Italvega! Needs a good bit of work, and at $100 buy in with Record all over it, it could certainly be worth it.
