I think gumwalls look good on bikes that are otherwise understated. A bike with a pile of logos isn't the best candidate for them because there's already a lot going on. This might explain why they look better on older bikes - not a lot of logos. Today's bikes are a bit more flashy in the logo department and the gumwall seems to be another distraction.

Overall, I dig them, but only on certain bikes.

I like gumwalls because BITD any decent quality bike had gum or skin wall tires. The all-black sidewalls remind me of the nasty, heavy, cheap K-Mart tires from those days.
