Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Usual max dose is 550 mg every 12 hours. That assumes normal kidney function. With the aging population in the USA, impaired kidney function is becoming more common and high dose NSAIDS can make that much worse in a hurry.

Doctors are like drivers. Even the mediocre ones think they are good.

For RA, usually the best “tell” is severe morning stiffness of knuckle joints that takes a long time to loosen up.

In defense of your witch doctor, autoimmune conditions often are tough to diagnose and/or take a long time to declare themselves.

No fireworks here.

Got up at 6:30 to beat the heat. Got my kit together. At 7:15 the skies opened up. In July no less.

My kidney function is good(though I'm not in the USA) and I am taking only 250 mg/12 hours. I make a point of taking a day or so off every now and then.

No ride today. I awoke at 4, to get out the door at 5, only to be assaulted by my first a-fib flare-up in ten days. It had been going off every three days, when I was being sedentary. It's passed now, but too warm out to begin a ride. My dr. is on it. I'm blaming Covid; she is holding back judgement until further facts present themselves. The cardiologist I visited chalked it up to age. My RN friend also chalked it up to age, possibly accelerated by Covid. Whatever the cause, it's an inconvenience. Now that I'm past being freaked out by it.

I used to take Ibuprofen a lot more often. Now I limit myself to 2 after a long (i.e. >50 miles) ride.

I suspect there may be a lot of people who had asymptomatic, or mildly symptomatic COVID and didn't know it and now suffer sequelae from it. I think I mentioned Mrs. GJ - who never salts her food - suddenly heavily salting some admittedly fairly mildly flavored Thai food. A coworker mentioned that one way someone had found to track COVID outbreaks was the number and location of returns of scented candles - "This candle just smells like nothing!".

And then there are the cardiovascular problems. I would love to see a study on the rate of people experiencing arrhythmias these days compared to pre-Pandemic.

It's quarter of 9 in the morning, in JULY, and this is the temperature here. Last week, I rolled out for my Sunday ride at this time to avoid the heat. Today I'm dawdling getting ready so it will be a little warmer when I start. Mrs. GJ is running the heat. IN JULY.

Means very different things to different people. Gotta have a good mix of bedside manner, empathy, good listening skills, medical knowledge, judgement, understanding of roles/limitations of testing/imaging, and possibly most importantly wisdom to know when to treat something and when to leave it alone.

You can’t fix/treat everything, nor should you.

Good ride but got SOAKED the last 30 minutes or so.

At least now I have an excuse to clean my bike.

I had 2 medium size descents on my way home. I can confirm the stopping power of crabon fiber rim brakes is not good.
