2012 - How Was the Commute Today?

born again cyclist
the radar showed snow falling along my route before i left, so i grabbed my ski goggles. not one flake of snow fell during my ride.
oh well, it's snowing now and could very well still be snowing on the ride home, so the goggles may still prove useful.

It was about 38 degrees, dark, and drizzling when I left the house, but it stopped raining before long. The roads were wet all the way to Dallas though. Lots of fog in places. I was surprised, as I got passed by 3 cars in the 9 mile ride. I was expecting none.
It was my first ride in a few weeks again, and I'm feeling it. I don't work again until next Wednesday so I hope to ride again then. I think I've gained at least 10 pounds in the past couple of months. Too many excuses, not enough riding.

left about 10 mins early at 3:50am, the road had about 2″ snow accumulation. 30°f w/ a steady snowfall. Ideal snowbiking. I wish I had my camera. In the aftn I rode along the OBT and rode some of the dirt trails that are now snow covered. You’d never think you were in Ohio. The bank of the Olentangy is quite a sight in winter

28F/-2C, about the coldest ride of the season for me. Yesterday's strong winds are long gone. I added a large hoodie pullover for another layer. Other than that a quiet last inboubnd commute of 2012.
A safe and happy New Year to all my fellow bike commuters around the world!
(Mods...will we start a new thread for 2013?)

It felt colder than the thermometer reading of 29° F, with lots of moisture in the air. Th radar showed light rain, but none of it was reaching the ground. I only saw two cars until I got into downtown.
As I passed by a large hotel there were several buses and lots of State Trooper activity. I don't know what was up but I suspect it was one of the football teams participating in the Music City Bowl today at 11am preparing to move to the stadium or wherever the team is having breakfast.
I was off work all last week, so today was the first morning back. along wit the cold, I could tell that I'd been taking it easy for a week (maybe too easy :0 ).

Haven't been commuting lately due to a saddle sore that have developed on my upper right leg. The temp was 9 degF this morning and roads were all plowed well so I believe it would have been a beautiful commute. I have a new RideOut saddle coming and hope this helps.

Coldest morning of the year for northern VA, at 22°. Beautiful sunrise.
It's been quite a year on my bicycle.
I didn't give it much thought when I started this commuting thing how quick the miles would add up.
3175 miles total for 2012
2502 miles total for 2012 on Trek 520
Happy New Year

last night the commute home was freezing. The wind was blowing, and my cold weather gear is not the best. I'm a Texas transplant in the Great Northwest. My sweaters and jackets have no protection from the wind, half way up my ride I had to quit and take the bus. I was so cold that my hands were shaking and it was hard to use my breaks.
Time to reconsider my wardrobe.

Another grocery run today, 11 miles round trip. 13F, fresh snow. Beautiful.
