Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Smart woman. Can you spray a little carb cleaner in the air intake and see if it tries to fire? Something obviously changed after you took the carb apart. Either that or the original problem got worse.

I can try. I only have "throttle body" cleaner that is close enough?

Isn't "get a new bike" always the subtext in the 41?

Imagine anything else posted in this thread being scrutinized as much as what I said about Everesting. SMH.

Since I lost all that weight, I tend to weigh myself semi-obsessively. Generally at least once on days I ride, often a before and after. And I've been in the 205-208 range for about two months now. So imagine my surprise when the scale said 212 yesterday before my ride! Two Hundred Twelve? How'd I get to THAT from 208 on Friday evening? I didn't eat enough to gain FOUR POUNDS in two days!

Post ride, it was 209. This morning, 208 again, and this was after eating and drinking a pretty normal amount. I'm starting to think there was something off about that one reading.

It's winter. It's too cold to ride, and it's dark a lot. There's time to lovingly craft responses to relatively mundane posts.

Naturally, this last weekend was cold, blustery, and snowy and I had all the time in the world.

Today is warm (32°F), sunny, and calm, and I'm stuck inside at work all day

But of course.

I was watching some training vlogs, discussing the benefits of fasted training in the mornings. Sounds like a great idea, except for having to get out of bed in the dark to go ride in the cold garage. I calculated back from when I'd need to be done, and how long I'd need to get ready to ride after falling out of bed, and it's a firm 'No!' Kudos to those who can get up that early, but I am by no means a morning person. I can stay up till way later than I can get up early.

I was always told to weigh myself once a week to prevent what you just saw.

Correct. Big time.

That's all from my dad, a child of the depression.

I find that I feel so much better throughout the day when I ride first thing in the morning. Only draw back on days where I ride longer I usually feel the need for a nap in the afternoon.

I used to be able to ride in the mornings. Now it takes too long for me to go through all the things I need to do to hit the road before it's already too late in the morning.

Interesting. Since the 17th, I had done nothing but Zwifting, and while I am okay with that, I realized yesterday that it's only on the road that I feel in love with the bike. A couple real world miles on the newly-recabled Bianchi and I was thinking, "Yeah, THIS is why I have this bike!", whereas on the trainer, it's just a tool. I don't feel any real connection. It could be anything. So I, too, start idly noodling on the idea of updating it to 11 speeds, when I'm on the trainer. On the road, it just feels right.

BTW, I get the same feeling with all the bikes, on the road - "Oh, yeah! THIS is why I have this bike!"

The Younger Boy wants to try getting fitter, and mentioned using the trainer, and I thought, "Maybe I should set up one of my bikes for him", but I realized that then it wouldn't be set up for ME anymore (he's taller than me).
