Just completed a Massapequa to Tobay and back run and when I checked my stats, I had my fastest 40k... 18.1mph. My old was 16.8mph.

Damn...

Must be the new bike.

Went to Tobay early, the weather was great. Low humidity, cool and a 6mph breeze.

And the MUP was pretty empty.

Went for a quick 20 miles at 7:00pm and rode through the Bethpage path. I quickly learned that you'll get a mouthful of bugs when you ride at dusk.

Rode from Massapequa - Sagamore Hill - Oyster Bay - Massapequa with my son and his friend.

They dragged my ass up a number of hills and my legs are like rubber now.

We did a brisk somewhat hilly 50 mile AA ride to Port Washington/Sands Point on the tandem. Humidity like this sometimes kicks my butt, no problems today. I think we are ready for the Ancient Mariner in a week. We have not done a century ride in about 5 years but it's a pretty flat route and about 10 of us plan to do it at a "social" pace, slower than our usual. My Mrs. thinks this is century #7 for her; I've lost count but again haven't done a recent one.

Headed out early, 5:30am, the roads were empty and the temps cool. Headed north to Cold Spring Harbor, then east and hooked up with the Huntington Bike Club. Jumped on a group ride to Glen Cove and dropped off at Muttontown where I took the LIE east. Eventually headed back through Farmingdale and finally home.

I felt great and could of kept going, but I have a family obligation and needed to be home at noon. I'm sure i'll find a chair in the shade and take a nap.

Sorry that I can't compete with you guys on mileage, but my two-mile commute to work this morning was awesome. So was the three-mile ride home, which incorporated a dinner stop at Chipotle, my favorite restaurant in the world. To me, nothing is more pleasant than being on the quiet "country" roads around my house at 6:30-7am on a slightly crisp weekday morning, knowing that this is the mildest it's going to be all day.

In my book, every commute mile is worth 20 I do just for fun.

My all out best bicycle experiences are pulling into my driveway after a ride home from my job in Brooklyn. The commute is over. I didn't have to sit in bumper to bumper traffic. I saw the ocean - again. And I got my ride in for the day. Nothing better.

The ride to/from work is absolutely the best part of every day. I went from an exciting career to sort of a tedious job with the Town of Oyster Bay, so I need every minute of joy I can muster up between 8am and 4pm. I do my longer rides (including overnights) on weekends on the rare occasions that I can, but the dopey 10 minute ride between home and work is the bread and butter of my life in between.

Please clarify. It used to be members only and was run in Oct. Is it now always open to the public ?

this year was the first year that they allowed non-members to do the ride. and it was moved to the summer months for a few reasons. one reason was that the members felt it was better to do the ride in the warmer summer months, like pretty much all of the other club sponsored centuries. also, it used to get dark before the train ride home, which meant riding to the train station was dangerous. especially if it was your first time doing the ride and you didn't know to bring lights for a ride that started first thing in the morning...

Been in Florida for a week and the weather sux.

Even at 6:00am its hot and humid. During the day it gets hotter and then thunder showers. I was going to rent a bike for a day or two but will pass so i don't pass out.

Can't wait to get back to Long Island so I can ride.

I'm going to try to ride a century tomorrow or the next day, heading out on the south shore, Dune Road, cross Shelter Island, take a look at the tall ships at Greenport, then back along the north fork. I figure, if I post my intentions here, maybe I'll force my hand... I've been lazy lately!

headed out early (5:30am) and it was rather cool. Headed north to Cold Spring, Huntington and Greenlawn. Hooked up with a group ride to Tobay, but they were going to take a stretch on Rt 107. There were 20 riders taking Polaski to Westbury doing a good 21-22mph... it was fast and the road sucked. When they reached Plainview i decided to take Manetto Hill to Central Ave to Stewart to Seamans Neck... a much safer route. I continued to Cedar Creek where I took a break and had a gel. About 5-7 minutes later they rode past on their way to Tobay. i decided not to continue and headed home.

62 miles @ 16.8mpg average... it was a fast ride.

What a great day, hope everyone has a great 4th.

I did Cedar Creek to TOBAY today. I probably passed you in the park. Did you happen to see the very pretty but very disoriented girl in the skimpy bikini? I saw her leave the theater parking field walking north at a very slow pace just as I arrived. I had lunch at Zack's Bay then hung outwith some other cyclists at TOBAY for a bit. When I got back to Cedar Creek, she was just arriving at the gate and was still walking at the same pace. Something looked wrong with her mental state, but she sure turned a lot of heads. I guess you know you're getting old when all I could think about was "I hope she gets home OK."

July 5, 2015: Took a quick ride out to Oyster Bay this morning and FINALLY bumped into Billy Joel. I was quite surprised, as he had just gotten married the day before and I never expected to see him up and out so early the next day, alone, picking up a beautiful Harley from his shop in town. Perhaps he was preparing to take the new bride out east? I hope so, otherwise this marriage is doomed already.

Anyway, this is always a very refreshing ride, even when I'm not in the mood to get on the bike at all.

Did a afternoon ride but saw something and hope it's not what I think.

About 2:00pm I was on the east bound LIE service road approaching South Oyster Bay Road where I saw 2 police cars. One had no driver and the lights were on. The other just pulled away with a bike hanging out the trunk. I'm assuming there was an accident and the missing driver went in the ambulance with the cyclist.

I didn't see any debris or bandages so I can only hope it was the heat and not a collision.
