Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It is said that we will get our first cold front on the 23rd. Thus far, anti-cyclonic winds have kept the cooler air from crossing the gulf. Apparently that is changing. Cooler temps will be welcomed whenever they elect to arrive.

Off to Costco for gas and supplies; wife is off to Aldis and Krogers for food. Probably be snowed in for a few days.

Bike content: Need to oil chain on the trainer bike. It may get a workout over the next week.

Definitely. Spouse and I made an agreement that we would stay for at least 5 years and re-evaluate then. With this job I believe I'm vested in the pension after 8 years, so that will probably push that date out. Things can always change, though.

This weekend my parents offered an unexpected opportunity to fly to IL on Friday. We declined for a few reasons, but now looking at how this storm is developing it might have been a little hairy getting in to Chicago anyways.

One of my clubmates is into woodworking and makes home-made trainer rocker-plates. He says it makes a decent difference in the trainer experience. Pic:

It's kinda like a "suspension" that allows for small movements up/down/left/right and apparently makes the stationary trainer experience more comfortable/realistic, I have never tried one but those who have used it seem to like it.

Oil? You are going to oil your chain? The Horror. Waxing is obviously the only choice. I read that somewhere.

I put a hole in the wall getting off my bike a couple weeks ago. Wife had me out the trainer as close to the wall as I could tolerate. I finished my ride, and went to unclip my right foot, when it came out of the pedal it flung into the wall. Reminds me, something else I have to fix.

Oh. And according to my daughter the trainer belongs to Mrs Bam, and every chance she gets she tells me my bike doesn’t belong. I’ll call her while I am at work and the first thing out of the little ones mouth. Dad you forgot to remove your bike from moms trainer.

Good news/bad news:

Good news is he is agreeable to do this for the cost of the parts ($300 assuming you want high quality hard plywood), bad news it that offer is only for friends/family and he works at his own pace.

I am curious if this would solve my indoor riding hatrid. A. The trainer aggrevates my left knee for some reason. B. My comfort level on the trainer nears a -1 on a scale to 100. 100 being good.

That thing might reach 700 posts. It stalled below 500 for a while but got rolling again. Way more than any waxing thread before it.
