Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Went on a routine Saturday group rode and totally blew up. HR/power for the last third of the ride was crazy high and my legs and back were killing me. I nearly had to creep up the basement stairs on all 4s and it took me quite a while to be able to stand up without dropping my BP below what it takes to perfuse my big ol’ head. Wasn’t even that hot.

If you want to feel better about yourself, you can use my numbers for comparison. I got passed today by a girl. I was huffing, puffing, and trailing sweat, and she casually passed me like I wasn’t even moving.

Of course, she looked to be about 40 years younger, very fit, and on a tri bike. Still a humbling experience.

I get passed by a girl all of the time. The fact that she weighs 75# less than me probably has something to do with it.

No, I don’t do Strava, but perhaps should. She was rather attractive.

Happens to me too and they’re not always 40 years younger, e.g., the mom of a woman who came in 16th in the triathlon in Tokyo has wiped the streets with me on a few rides.

I am At my witts end with the noise from my disk brake bike. I've repacked and adjusted the headset 5 times and added a couple of shims to the top cap. I replaced the bottom bracket. Lubed and adjusted it multiple times. Still get this weird tick tick tick. When pedaling. Mostly over bumps, not big ones cracks in the road. It's random. Only occurs when it wants too. I tightened the ring bolts and the spider mounting bolts today and serviced the b.b. again today, but I saw no reason for it to be making noise. I've lubed the bars stem seat mount and post. Different pedals too. I hate to say it but I am contemplating taking it to a shop.....
