And yes, with all the rolling terrain, I do shift quite often.

Got a beater bike slapped together for Flag. Ass end is too long, bars too low and fork too short, but it'll do for now I guess.
All those things conspire to make wheelies a chore and manuals? Don't even kid yourself.
Thought about putting high riser bars on but since it has slip on grips didn't wanna deal with that. Thought a 27.5 front wheel would be nice but the only one I have has a center lock w/200mm rotor and I have no 200mm adapters or smaller rotors of the center lock variety.

So about to pull the trigger on some wheels.
Torn between the Hunt aerodynamist 54 wheels or the hunt aerodynamist 44/54 wheel set. The split wheels is 24 grams in savings. Not a lot but it keeps the wheels under 1500 grams. Any thoughts?

Well boys and girls, I had forgotten what it's like to go on an actual bike ride. One where water snd fuel stops are required. Friday's ride was pleasant enough; today I didn't want to stop. But rain was threatening. Good thing. The wife wrote from Dallas, informing me that "Oh, I get in at two, not five, like I told you this morning'. I was only an hour out at the time.

Despite Velo Vol whining about the weather, I can confirm conclusively that it is still summer in the Northwest Metro Atlanta area.
11.13 miles and the first time doing 4 rides in a week since I started riding again on June 1st.
I think I'm gaining some fitness finally. I can't expect much with the meager mileage I do, but I'll take it. Beats riding the couch. Even with a 74 dew point.

Looked up the Hunts, and it looks to me like you would get a little lighter wheel for about the same price by going with the Winspace probably due to the carbon spokes on the Winspace. And the wind resistance of a 60/65mm Winspace wheel set will be less than those 44mm Hunt wheels. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that the Hunt wheels are rebadged Winspace. The hubs look very similar.

I have been very happy with the Winspace D67 set that I put on my Scylon. They handle side winds better than the 2 or 3 year old Light Bicycle wheels on the Lynskey.

So looking at it. Hunt comes in 3 tiers. They have the top ones out of my price range, the aerodynamist and then standard carbon.
The standard carbon are on sale for 1000 65 deep. Weight wise is only about 50 grams. Do I pay the extra 400 for wind tunnel testing for the 54 aerodynamist or would you save the 400 bucks and get the 65 deep?

Nine months ago (Nov 26th, 2022) I fell on an icy patch on an otherwise clear sidewalk and came away with my femur fractured in a couple of places. The surgeons wound up putting a Titanium rod down the femur and attaching a new ball to that but leaving the socket on the pelvis intact.
Yesterday our weekend riding group did a group century ride. Conditions were perfect: Temperature never got above 70F, wind speed maxed out at 8 MPH with none of the gusts that we can get here in the Dakotas. Twenty four people rode. My total distance was 101 miles at an average pace of 18+ MPH. Not bad for an old man less than a year out from that kind of injury.

Inwas looking at win space. The warranty lifetime crash replacement of the hunt wheels is too good to pass up.

I really don't notice any twitchiwness with the 60mm front wheel. I can't speak with any certainty one way or the other about Hunt wheels, but I am very happy with the Winspace 60mm front / 68mm rear setup.
Another guy on the ride has deep Bontrager wheels on his Madone, and he wasn't getting buffeted by a 20 MPH wind either. It seems to me that people making deeper section wheels have all been doing their research and are making wheels that work even in a 20 MPH cross wind.

I wondered what the 60+ mm wheels would be like in cross winds, but I bought them anyway. For today's ride we had a 20MPH South wind which meant I had a 15 mile stretch into a slight cross wind, then 10 miles with a 20 MPH cross wind and ended with a glorious ride back home at mostly 25 MPH+ with that 20 MPH tailwind.

Velo Vol The pumpkin harvest has started. They used to lift cab and trailer combined but for several years now, the driver drops his trailer and leaves with an empty. A small yard tractor manages the trailers from there.
