Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Emonda is also Madone scrambled! They like doing that with the names of their top bikes!

At $16,000 there aren't many new cars that price. Cars also range down to $100.

Also just about anything new depreciates the moment you buy it, even houses.

anyway, it's nice to see that manufacturer's are not reluctant to ignore the UCI rules.

You are making a very common error. Esoterica doesn't equate to value.

Not usually a Trek fan, but they did a good job on this one. Stealth black is kind of played out by now, but Treks usually have ugly paint jobs anyway.

It's super cool for rec riders, but at what point does a frame get too light for the pros? Even after pedals, power meter, and heavier wheels there is still a lot of weight to add.

That frame should support 60mm wheels, disc brakes, Di2, video camera, & full computer at right around the 15 lbs mark. Basically, everything a pro wants on a bike.

Discs aren't legal yet (and wouldn't go on that frame). Neither are video cameras.

There was a rumor that Cookson was thinking about looking at a new weight limit, but who knows.

Land on which homes are built appreciate so they're a good investment.

If someone can afford it, they can certainly buy a luxury bicycle. Its a free country.

At 16K, I would expect nothing but the finest and lightest components on that bike. Every ounce of shed weight counts and Trek should certainly be happy to help a buyer trim more fat from it at that price level at no additional cost.

Over on Weight Weenies they're having wet dreams about this bike. They are claiming the Madone will only be offered in 1, 2 and 7 series so this Emonda is more or less reaplacing the Madone as their volume "race bike" offering. Just to be clear, Trek is offering the Emonda in 16 different builds starting at $1650.

Including a budget road bike build? Cool!

At that price point, who's looking for value? I agree with Lazyass, not my first choice in that price range.

Reading the Weight Weenies thread about the Emonda it sounds like you'd have to spend closer to $20k to build up another uber-light frame and get to a 10.25lb. final weight. Absolutely insane money for a bike but the frame is "only" $4200 which is less than half the cost of the Cervelo Rca which is very close to the same frame weight. So glad not to be a weight weenie BTW. I just like the message board.

That was a big word. But no, I'm making no error. Those brands hold no interest with me. Just like when I was into hot rods I never had a Mustang since you see one at every stop light. They're nice and everything but I don't want one.

If I were to spend that much on a bike, it'd be a VFR1200F.
2013 VFR1200F Overview - Honda Powersports
That one MSRPs for a dollar under $16K... probably a bit faster than the Trek Edamame... or whatever it's called.

You'd lose all the weight advantage by carrying $1600 worth of locks.

This has to be the replacement for my commuter bike that I have been waiting for. Does it have rack mounts and fenders?

Pretty sure cameras are legal. There were several Giant-Shimano riders using the new Shimano cam during the Tour of California.

You make a compelling point.

Why do I hear the theme from The Knight Rider in my head when I look at that?
