Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

The scene In Alphaville were Lemmy Caution goes down the elevator and the camera /shot moves down the elevator while the camera is either inside (or from far away) shooting Lenny then it looks like the camera (if it were inside) goes out of the elevator and follows Lenny out in one shot but when it pans out you can see that the elevator is whole and not in parts meaning there is no fake panel......I have always loved that continuos 5 min shot and it still makes me wonder how he did it.
yeah Im a nerd........
Besides the film has this Orwellian feel to it too

Did you know that Cinematographer Luis Cuadrado was going blind at the time this film was being made? He eventually went completely blind and committed suicide in 1980.
Debbie Downer moment sorry.

You may have seen it, but I love the looooong single shot in the beginning of Touch of Evil. Oh Orson Wells, you were the bomb. A big, tubby bomb.

It Happened One Night.

Sappy and lame, but amazing at the same time.

As previously mentioned, M is an amazing film.

And then other classics such as Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, and other bad horror films.

Its hard to list because I always start getting too focused on one area. And its so hard to pick favorites.

Non-formulaic cinema for the win. That is experimental, or whatever you'd like to call it.

A specific film? Chris Marker's "Sans Soleil". In fact, check out anything by this awesome Frenchman.

Montrealers and neighbors, look out for the TIE film festival here in early November (2-4). No publicity yet since it was meant to be in Uruguay this year, but we're in the process of moving part of it up here. It's the only all-film festival out there (video projection, you suck), arguably the best avant-garde festival, and it changes location every year, which I think is an incredible thing.

lots of good one's here, I love "killing of a chinese bookie"

I'll put down for...

The Battle of Algiers
(Kurosawa's) Dreams
The Third Man
Medium Cool
Chameleon Street

But those are just a few that sprung to mind, I'd have to start with a list of 100 and narrow it down from there, and even then it would be hard to choose.
