As a fellow chain waxer, I was also going to chime in with the obligatory reference to chain waxing, but I must warn about the use of odorless mineral spirits (and other volatile solvents) in the immediate vicinity of a dryer.

I do all my own and most of the family laundry and have learned a lot about removing stains. I learned when I was a kid and for years in young adulthood living without mommy and a wife.
Black chain stain? You're on your own, but... I'd try all the stain products in the cupboard, reading the label for the ones that tout grease effectiveness (as opposed to grass stain, wine, etc.) and never dry an item if the stain isn't removed. Air dry only - will give you another shot at stain removal rather than baking it in. I might try a citrus based hand cleaner I have at the laundry/utility sink and as an aggressive a brush as the fabric will tolerate. Be careful not to damage the fabric..
But what's this with "the wife's laundry" bit?

I think I may be in the clear. I had to wait until she’s out of the house so that me cleaning it wouldn’t draw her attention to it. I ended up using DAWN Platinum Powerwash spray…which I have on hand as I’ve been using it for bike cleaning. It cuts grease really well. Now hopefully the wet area will dry before she returns. Otherwise, I blame the wet spot on one of the aging dogs. — Dan

I'd still go with taking it to a professional dry cleaner shop. They will know what to do.

I think I’m in the clear. Grease stain is gone, and no visible stain after the cleaning fluid dried. Phew!
