Over the holidays, I developed sepsis. Ended up passing out in my kitchen. His my head, suffered a brain bleed and had three strokes.
The neighbors to the east of me noticed the back door to my deck opened for a long time and the only light being on in the bathroom. That couple went to the neighbors on my west side. The wife of that couple had the combination to my lockbox from cat sitting. I was found at 7:30 pm on New Year’s Eve. From what we can piece together, I had likely been on the floor for well over 12 hrs:
The sepsis had infected my heart badly. After I was removed from a respirator after 4 days I had to have my mitral valve and part of my ascending aorta replaced.
Spent a month in the hospital and two months in a pretty bad rehab place. I didn’t walk for over two months and was on a feeding tube until March 7th.
Got discharged at the end of March. Needed a walker and stairlift to get around the house. Graduated to a cane near the end of May and went back to work on June 1st. Haven’t used the cane since early July, but I still don’t walk normally.
I’m going to retire at the end of April. Life is too short.

10/07 - 19, 1:15, 34.5mph coming down the canyon. This was a fun community tour event that was supposed to be 20 miles, but my Fitbit app read it as 19 when I finished. I started out taking it easy, stomach was too full, rode along with some other guys at the front of the group. Got bored and left them, finished first by a lot of minutes. I’d been training to do the 44mile event, but C19 knocked me out of my training plan and I decided to be conservative in my recovery period. It’s not really a race, not proving anything to anyone but myself, and I need to be healthy for the rest of the year, not just push and do a longer ride today, with a possible relapse later as a result.

Okay, brief bout of sickness thanks to the kids returning to school put me off track but back on board for October. It's all about training this month and not worrying about mileage as it's all on a Wahoo Kickr Core anyway.

Not sure I’ll get 100 this month due to a variety of factors, but I’ll keep plugging away as best I can.

I can already tell I won't make my goal this month. I sure am enjoying the cooler weather, though.
