Starting a Columbus Air road bike frame build ...this could take a while!
#27
This Friday, I'm stopping by Dale Saso's shop again, to start building my first frame from scratch - it's been nice working with him on this project. I'll post some photos of the results when I get back.

-brazing the steerer tube to the fork crown, and putting the steerer into a lathe to machine the race seat
-brazing the fork ends to the blades and roughly aligning the ends
Later, we put the three pieces into a jig that held the steerer tube and the dropouts at the proper rake.

should be satisfying to ride a bike that you've built from scratch, if that's what is intended. the hard part will not be building the frame, i think, but resisting the temptation to talk about something other than the frame you built to your cycling buddies. it could wear thin pretty quickly, i would think.

Very interesting. I always wondered how a race seat is done on custom forks. This makes me want to build a custom set at some point. Nothing completes a frame like custom forks made just for it. Looking forward to seeing your next progress.

There re pre machined crown race seats available, often used when making unicrown forks. The fork in the photo looks to have a crown with a race seat already machined in it, like many crowns do. After brazing the fork one can use a lathe or a crown race cutter to take the seat down to size. Andy.

I see in one of the pics you have two different on top areo shifter braze ons. I didn't see these at the nova site
or ceway uk. Where did you get them? I am looking forward to seeing your areo set up.

It would be very straightforward (and a whole lot cheaper) to make one out of a pair of regular shifter bosses.
