[QUOTE=styggno1;22699924]Being a strong believer in tradition and race proven set ups - I live by the rules. And I love it. I also love to look down at (on?) people (and their bikes) who do not live by the rules. Sometimes I am also ironic. Within the rules of course...
Nice.

My single biggest pet peeves is someone telling me how to setup my bike. Hands down.

I have a couple of bikes with a couple of deficiencies that should bother me more than they do that I guess I don't care how someone else sets up their bike. So if I have any peeves, they must not be bad.

Not guilty of the marble tape thing and don’t build my own wheels...so I can’t be held accountable for not having a proper peek through at the valve hole...
Bars tilted upward...umm. Oh, brifters on an 87 bike...oops.
Pet peeves I have none. Bikes are cool.

Didn’t we have a “pet peeves” thread a few weeks ago? Or was that in a different section of the forum?

Curiously, many breaches of The Knowledge and The Rules that I almost religiously avoided and which quite annoyed me in my youth I now find quite amusing and occasionally almost endearing.

For some, it's the reversal of brake pads.
For me, and what drives me nuts, is the handlebars tipped too far up. The bottom of the bar should be parallel with the ground, but I will allow a small angle, if you were to insert a skinny broom stick or dowel, no lower than the rear brake stay.
What's yours?

You know what totally ticks me off? Those idiot vintage bike manufacturers publishing catalogs showing their handlebars set up wrong!
Didn't those morons know that the only legitimate source of bike setup advice is random dudes on the internet 50 years in the future?

SurferRosa didn't say anything about not knowing that technique---the point of the post was that it's unusual to see it used in a bike catalog photo shoot. Seriously.

It's annoying when there's only a few pages of a bike catalog that got scanned, usually meaning the mid and lower tier offerings for that year aren't documented.

Bearing in mind that I rode 38 miles yesterday and got into the drops ONCE, so perhaps I am different, but -- unless my shoulders are directly, vertically, above the bars, using the drops means angling my wrists to use them. So am am still utilizing the "long disproven?" method of pointing the bottom of the bars at the rear dropouts.

My pet peeve is not limited to C&V. It's noisy drive trains. Squeaky derailleur pullies, clattering rear derailleurs, chain rubbing the front derailleur cage, etc. Sometimes, all it would take is a minor trim adjustment or a few drops of oil to silence the offending item, but they will blissfully pedal along, thinking that all bikes make that noise.
