A few questions for the experts here. I posted a photo of mine....built in 84 for 85 model year. I looked at the 85 catalog and it shows 3 racing models SR 900, 500/600, & 300.
Is there a difference between the 3 frames? hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like the fillet work might be a bit better on the higher priced models.... all seem to have the same
Tange forks w/ semi-sloping crown and the weird touring bottle cage mounts on the underside of the down tube. TIA

The '85 catalog shows "Racing" as the inclusive category, they shared the same frames within the category.

Correct. At the time the model # also reflected approximate retail price. SR500 was in the $500 range.

I didn't get it at first…the first Cannondale bicycle was the ST and that didn't debut until 1983. From '73 to '82 they were just selling panniers, tents, clothing, sleeping bags, and backpacks. Think of them as the 70s/80s version of the North Face, Mountain Hardware, or Mountainsmith.

My 'dale fleet:
Couldn't find a better photo of this one, excuse the seatpost and cross chain as she was just pulled from the stand.

Looks like the front is at least a Suntour Superbe Pro hub, so its a Sansin rebranded under the Suntour working group. That saddle to bar drop looks almost totally unrideable for a mere mortal.

I'm a noob but a USA made Cannondale fan so what does C&V mean? Judging by the comments mine wont fit the criteria.
I have a '99 Multisport 2000, a '97 R800 and a '98 F400.
Some beautiful bikes in here.
EDIT: just classic and vintage. I thought at first it was a Cannondale specific reference.

I sold Cannondale products in bike stores from the mid-'70s, when their seat bags were shipped with "some assembly required" (we'd sit around the shop laboriously working the foam liners into place under the little flaps inside the bags), through the introduction of the bikes in 1983, when the frame came in one box and the rest of the bike came in another.
Looking back, it's amazing that Cannondale was able to persuade their first bike dealers that it was worth carrying the bikes even though they cost more than equivalent steel bikes and took much longer to assemble. Wacky company, great bikes.
Loving all the pictures. Best thread in a long time.

I like it. What is it and what do you have left to do to it?

While I'm at it here's my old 93 T-1000. I rode this loaded through Europe a couple of times and would buy it again it a heartbeat if I was touring.

It's an '88 Alpine series, originally with Exage mtn parts, now XT/DX. It needs a pair of decent yellow grips (like old Yeti's), gear cables and ideally a Synchros decal on the stem.I believe it was an SM500 in the catalogues, colour is Blueberry.

Those diacompe cantis were actually a pain to setup. It came with the proper Diacompe 289 levers and still had poor stopping power. I think the rims were too narrow so I swapped them out for the older wide profile Shimanos and it was fine.
