Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

That’s what I heard on the news. Seems like they wanted to be different for difference’s sake. It’s not like other airlines don’t have issues, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen another airline collapse like this over weather.

Best airlines I’ve experienced are Virgin and British Air. Will fly Virgin any chance I get.

Ive been on a lot of SW flights, and don’t think I’ve ever been on one that’s departed on time. Seriously.

Hub system is cool, except when everytime one gets to the hub, the crew swaps and the plane swaps. Then it really doesn’t matter if the inbound was on time, if the flight crew isn’t there delayed, if the plane isn’t there delayed, if the flight attendants park on gate 1 in MIA and have to go to gate 47 delayed. If it’s my go home day, DELAYED.

Weather compounds problems, but their pilot group are not happy, and they are over worked.

I have, but it's been a looooong time since I flew them. They were cheap out of Denver, but once I moved to Texas they weren't cheaper than American to go home (though I had plenty of issues with American...) and then I met AG and flew with her family on American and United.

Used to be the only practical way to fly around the state was SW. I used to fly a lot to Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Corpus, etc.

Work no longer takes me their.

i can’t disagree about the look. i also found it somewhat harder to get stuff out than from the mesh pockets of the rapha cargo shorts i prefer. i don’t think i’ll use this again for anything less than 100 miles, at which point the capacity of my pockets is exceeded.

even back in the day when everyone was fanboy/girling about the LUV on southwest, i hated them. crappy flying buses operated by an organization using cheekiness and cheeriness to mask mediocrity (at best.) i would pay at least 50% more for a mainline carrier, but luckily i’ve never lived anywhere that wasn’t a significant hub.

this latest clusterFU has revealed that the emperor has no clothes, but i wonder if anyone will actually do anything about it. they didn’t last time.

I can’t stand SW. The stupid no assigned seat nonsense drives me crazy. As does leaving and arriving late.

I generally prefer AA, but lately have been flying Delta to PIT so I don’t have to connect in Charlotte and have an extra 75 minutes of flight time.

Delta is a bit player at DFW. AA controls the domestic market there. DFW is also a much shorter drive for us than Love Field, and I do like to pick my seat even if I have to pay a bit more.

DFW is nice in that I can get most anyplace I want to go on a nonstop flight. Other than international, I don’t think I’ve ever had a connecting flight or layover.

Oh how I hate riding indoors.

Every night the weather man says it will 30 something in the morning, wake up and it’s 20. Wrong everytime.

Wow! Clear roads? Lucky dog.

We’re supposed to hit the 40s but also winds of 30 mph with a chance of rain. I’m betting on an indoor ride if I ride at all. It is “zwischen den yahren” after all, the week of doing nothing.

I can’t risk getting sick again. Tomorrow it’s supposed to be in the 30s so I am hoping to ride.

Put the mavics on for now. I like the super teams, but they have to enter my circle of trust. I really don’t want to get flat in the cold.

Separately, JetBlue seems to have located my luggage. Maybe I’ll get it before year end too! They’re saying today, but given how badly they’ve poo-pooed everything else, I’m keeping my expectations low.

You can even get to Richmond direct from DFW, which begs the question, what havnt you?

Looks good! Did you retake the Super Team wheel at the spoke where there was trouble?

I did not. I don’t think there was enough hole showing to cause a problem. When I went out with whyfi the other day they didn’t give me a problem, the roads were questionable at times.
