Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Well that’s cut and dried. Did you leave it at the shop? Sign the papers and all? Prolly not. What would they want with it?

According to Wikipedia, the US won the Decathlon in the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics. So it exists for at least 2 men in the US of A.

I also looked up when Caitlyn Jenner won the Gold for it - 1976. Boy, does that make me feel old.

I bought a Rockrider (Decathlon) brand hydration pack, 2L. The part that sits against the back looks like it moves air well. Vamos a ver. The biggest they had. And an insulated bottle just because I was there and it was too. Yesterday I bought a spare tube, and the HPX3 works fine as a pump, though it may be difficult to carry. I am now ready to hit the dusty trails. In earnest after Bob leaves toward the end of the month.

What pump do you have, Big John?

There's a chance one of the guys might want it. An industrious young man might be able to fix it with $200 in parts from the U-Pull-It and a weekend of work.

A sporting goods store. It’s really nice to have a brick and mortar alternative.

If there's room for the pump in the main triangle and you don't care much about the paint in the area, you might have an aluminium welder nearby to tack on a pump peg for you.

Oh, THAT Decathlon. That's very different, then.

What a magnificent event. Traveled just 45 miles to a buddy's house who had a telescope and camera setup. The weather was better than expected so we got a bunch of great, memorable shots. Couldn't get 100% but 97% was better than I expected.

I have a Mount Zefal Double Shot. I think I found it on the trail. It's ok for the rare times I use it. When I had 26" tires I had a smaller pump which worked fine but it went with the bike when I sold it.

Another Tuesday, another 40+ mile ride. Pretty windy but I did sit on a friend's wheel for a good part of the headwind, which was nice. Was another friend's birthday lunch after so, of course, I ate way too much pizza.

One of my favorites. Saw them do it live in ‘86–at a free concert sponsored by a local radio station.

I've been out of the retail game for too long. F that. Good call on the new ride.

Now that I know the HPX3 works, I might send the Topeak back and go with something simpler. There is a lbs that sells a lot of Zefal stuff.

What's complicated about the Topeak? The footpeg is a game changer IMO. Holding the wheel while you pump can be
a PITA, esp on MTB and super esp. on plus/fat bikes.
