Mrs John says I have been getting home too early from Saturday rides but today should be a long one. Supposed to be 70 degrees here, (sorry).

Our club is big and we attract new riders all the time and last week we had some new guys pull some bonehead moves. Some rides are a series of idiotic events and I get tired of the drama. I'm much happier when some trusted regulars ride together.

The nice thing about where I ride is that there are hardly any traffic lights to worry about, and only a few mostly empty stop sign intersections. So we don't have a problem following the rules when we have to.

Another trainer ride for me this morning, then made breakfast for the family.

I probably posted this before but during my one and only driving test I blew through a stop sign, 100%. Someone told me about a new law, the rolling stop law, meant to save gas in the energy crisis days. If it was clear that the intersection was clear, the law allowed you to roll through the stop. I probably rolled through at 15-20 mph. Driving test guy was like, "You just ran a stop sign!!!"

I replied in my 16 year old know-it-all confident of my facts voice, "There's a rolling stop law that just got signed into effect. It allows drivers to roll through stop signs if the intersection is clear. It's meant to save gasoline wasted while idling at empty intersections with stop signs."

I passed the test. Went back to the shop (work). Told them the stupid driving test guy didn't know about the new rolling stop law the guys there told me about.

They were like, "Um, that was a proposed law. It got shot down."

"Oh."

just bought a boat.

Laser boat with dolly, asked $2200, I got it for $1700 without any bargaining (should have tried $1500). Bought the trailer hitch, it's on the way. About to buy a trailer, $625 shipped.

Not too bad. $2500 or so total, for a Laser in great shape plus all the necessary stuff.

Rolling out on the River Ride after a week of hardly riding at all. Let us all bow our heads and say the Roadie's Prayer: Dear Lord, don't let me get dropped. Amen.

Only two good days when owning a boat:
1- the day you buy it.
2- the day you sell it.

Damn, that's hard core. It was 6 when I woke up, I was inside for 3 hours.

About 19 degrees. Lasted 1 hour outside. Everything was fine, or at least bearable, except my fingertips. I cannot keep them warm (liners, warmers and gore gloves did nothing today). Any suggestions?

Yeah, I've heard all the boat owning jokes before. One of the reasons I didn't buy a keel boat. It's hard to spend too much money on a Laser. I could go buy a new one for $6k. I'll sail the big boats on someone else's dime. There are a few Ultimate 20s at the yacht club that need crew.

Still trying to find somewhere to store it. My HOA is deciding whether to let me store it at the condo. Seems kinda stupid when our parking lot has plenty of room, and it is tiny and not even the size of a car. Might have to get a space at a storage facility for $70/month, but I hope not, that would just be stupid.

Question: What criteria make the best measure(s) of effort and work for a rider who does not ride with power meters?

I'm not a big believer in cadence and I know that MPH has too many variables but what else is there?

If one of the active threads here addresses this feel free to re-direct me.
