The Voyageur 11.8 had 12 speeds and the SLT had 10. With all the various SLT models, it's difficult to tell without picking through the old catalogs.
I think they were both 4130 frames.

My 84 Gitane Pro grail bike....
It's getting there...... just cables, brake levers, bar tape, chain and spokes.....
Just have to push myself to finally calculate spoke legnths and order the DT SS butted spokes for this baby and I'm in the home stretch!

1981 Raleigh Record Ace
This has to be one of my slower builds but I'm hoping to get this done over the Labor Day weekend. This version of the Raleigh Record Ace (and there were at least 5 different versions) was only sold in the UK in the 80s. Mine is worksop built from 1981. It has the sticker from the British bike shop that originally sold it (Wally Woods in Bury St. Edmunds). The bike is full Reynolds 531 with suntour drop outs. It is a classic British randonneur style bike as it was originally kitted out with 27 x 1 and 1/4 tires and fenders (or mudguards if you prefer). The wheels, brakes, and headset are original to the bike. The derailleurs came on the bike. The suntour cyclone derailleurs with downtube ratcheting shifters are a nice upgrade from the campy gran sport derailleurs that came originally on the bike. I replaced the bar and stem with good Nitto stuff that fits me better. I'm running a Brooks B17 narrow saddle because this bike will need a carradice bag eventually. I replaced the swaged SR crank which came stock on the bike with a Shimano 600 triple. I particularly like the nice decals on the frame. It only came in the one color which Raleigh called "ice green" but it is closer to a very light brown I think.

Yesterday I installed new cables and housing for the brakes on this as well as the new levers. Then wrapped the bars. Maiden voyage in this configuration will happen this morning. Also swapped in some different wheels and tires and may try others over the week.

Ok, I'll join the postings of Grand Record. Here is the build of a former frame of mine. A.S. bought this from me and built up for a family member. At some time before me the bb was cut to Italian thread, it now has a Velo Orange bb, 650b, full fenders, a BMX brake on the rear.

I've been working and riding my 70s Fuji Newest. It needed new tires (Soma Shikoro 700 x 33c which run narrow) and I had to replace one of the derailleur cables. One of these days I'll get around to replacing the downtube sticker. The bike rides great.

I'm not quite sure why you cut the spokes. Even if they are not new, unless they're bent, they can be safely re-used. If not with the same hub and rim, then possibly with another. Congratulations on the build though

The way he described it sounded, just less than perfect, good that it has, but meh in performance. He'll do better. The BMX brake was first thing he found with proper reach. I think he was drained finding out the bb threads were Italian. He had a little more bb thread issue. The Italian threads needed to be cut farther deep. The VO bb threading was longer.
