And yet several people here refuse to learn the definition of this simple noun. See post #5359

If I had a lightweight XC bike like pictured above I could probably use a slightly higher low gear.

IMO, gnats are more of an issue than butterflies. If I recall from my MTB days of many years ago, the local variety of gnats have a max. speed of 5mph. Below that line, and they swarm your head during warm summer days. Above that line, and you're all clear.

Mine came with a 32 on the front and a 46 big cog. It wasn't low enough so I put a 28 on the front which helped a lot. Newer drivetrains have a 50, 51, or 52 in the back.

I like to be able to crawl up steep stuff occasionally so after a couple years with the single 34T x 11-46 I decided to go for a double 24/34 up front.

Personally, MTBs do nothing for me, though I can appreciate the design and technology and the fact that a lot of people have one hell of a good time on them.

Then there are wheel sizes, 27.5 or 29. Tires come in different widths and weights. When I rode a 26er XC bike my lighter tires were around 500 grams. The bike I have came with 825 gram tires and it's a 27.5 enduro type bike. Tires can be had for my bike upwards of 1200 grams. Those would be for sharp rocks.
If I had the disposable income I would get a light XC type bike for certain rides. The enduro bike I have will handle rough descents and rocks but it's not a fast climber. I think the extra suspension and slack geometry makes up for my mistakes on the trail. It weighs about 32 pounds stock.

Not exactly. Here's the video. I can hardly watch it because she thinks it's acceptable to say mil to mean millimetres. and millilitres too. Uggh. THEN there's the way she pronounces Shimano. It's like how Gordon Ramsey pronounces pasta.

The shakedown ride of the coupled bike lasted for two and a half blocks. The bars rotated on a front brake check. It is clear that practice is in order. My daily ride is a 61cm stiff racing bike. This one is a 58 cm sports tourer. Unfamiliar territory.
AT least it is not full squish.
