Training Status??? (IV)
#5451
honestly around here if you're riding <2 hours it's probably more efficient to train indoors. one summer in undergrad i did basically all my training indoors (i was working in a lab and usually got home at ~7PM) and i think my fitness was better then than it is now.

Elite Fred
My training status: No longer a racer. Now riding for fun.
I really miss being fast, but I don't miss the pain and suffering to be there. And being old with health concerns make it very unlikely I will ever be race fit again. I am relegated to Fred status.

The usual this morning, 3.5 hours, 3x4 repeats, and a few more hill efforts on the commute.
I've been hitting this particular 1' hill hard 3 hours into the ride the past 4 weeks and time is coming down so I'm still getting something out of this.
Also had some fun drafting multiple cars up 3rd street at 30 mph through about a hundred green lights in a row.

Did Oak Glen today and found out Phil Gaimon was at the TNW's. Right now I'm not even in 41 form, so I probably wouldn't have even seen him.

Took Monday off. We had a makeup of our normal Wednesday night crit yesterday evening so I did that but skipped my normal prerequisite prerace ride. A couple of rolling around laps before the race, then we started.
Hung out for a couple of minutes in the group and then put in a big move followed by three more successive moves to finally get a gap. Group of three of us lapped the field and I barely eeked out the field sprint ftw.
So yesterdays's ride consisted of a monstrous 46 minutes at 290AP, 324NP, and 76 TSSsssss.
I was struggling in the break. Felt like crap. Really want to get out and get in some solid intensity training but need to take a few days off, I think. Irritating! And the TdF isn't helping me pull in the reigns much.

yesterday was 5x standing start sprints, 4 sets of 3x30" all out w/ 30" recovery, standing & aero the entire time for the last one.
Didn't seem so bad on paper, hurt real bad irl, wanted to throw up after each set.
today is 3x8' @ 100-105% followed by 1x5' all out

Those crits on Sunday zapped more out of me than the usual 200 TSS of racing. After yesterday I was pretty tired today so did my usual 70 mile ride into work but only did 2x20 on the hills, zone 2 for most of it. Went for a sub 20 minute descent (winding, then flatter) KOM but got 3rd. Damn, the KOM is over a minute faster. I might be able to do it if I don't mind rounding blind corners at speed using the full road, but I think I'm too smart for that. I'd also probably need to be fresher for the flatter part. Oh well.

went out for an early group ride, which I rarely ever do, but better half starts work later in summer so I had my chance today. 1.5hrs, 115tss (NP 226 IF 0.89), I hit the hills hard (for me, slow compared to others). wish I could do it more, always appreciate how stronger riders push me to work harder

I actually isolated to the time when I was actively riding with the group, I had a NP of 241 and IF of 0.94 and I was among the slower ones, so it's a good butt kicking

this week has been all about tapering and resting for the 10 day smash fest that is going to be intelligentsia. feeling pretty decent. the first day (tomorrow) is a very very strong p123 field so my expectations are...minimal. the rest of the series are just 2/3 races so should be a good mix of hard and fun. the courses all look really awesome.
RSC does some morning rides too. I think wednesday is the hard one.
