Would you happen to know what day of the year yours was build (the 4-digit code on the head badge)? Mine is 115 (1155). Just curious if it got changed or if they did a swap at the factory. I started selling Schwinns in 1986, and we did not have any left by the time I got there.

Unless you have a 1986, then I think your last digit should be a 5. The first three digits were the day of the year (numbered sequentially), the last digit is the year (5=1985). I did an initial frame check when I bought it and did not see any issues at the time. The full tear down will include a more detailed check. I need to pull the seat post and see if there is a date code on it.

1985 Cimarron serial #1995
Tried to post picts… but too many rules!
Bought & built mine while working at Clifton Park Schwinn, NY.
Mostly original, I swapped out the saddle, mushroom grips & mini toe clips (love them).
Trying out Michelin Country Rock tires for the rail trail this spring.
Cheers,
JoeZaza

This thing is not the fastest, however it is extremely versatile and I love how I can go off the beaten path and explore. It definitely was a lot cheaper to build than any of these new adventure/gravel bikes on the market. I'm glad I went through the conversion.
Im using Suntour Command shifters, they are index and friction compatible, they work perfectly in the index mode with the suntour xc rear derailleur.

Nice job misctrader
Like the Suntour Command shifters and the drop bars.
I have a green one in the queue that I need to get to soon.

Thanks countalmaviva, I picked up a high end 90's Cannondale MTB with bad forks for cheap to grab those Suntour components. The tires are Panaracer Gravelkings SK 26x2.1.

Hard to tell from the angle, but am I correct that you're using both eyelets on either side of the fork to mount the low rider? I'm fitting one to the Nishiki touring bike I just bought, and never thought of that option.

Happy to say that my drop bar, repainted, re-brazed Cimarron is also working out great! Had a local cobbler modify a Carradice Super C to use as a handlebar bag with a Pec Dec and it swallows everything I'd need for a day ride and more. Lets me carry around all kinds of junk like a spare chain and spare derailleur on a ride if I feel like it. I just weighed the thing, too, on a bathroom scale and it came out to just under 26 lbs! That's about three under catalog specs, probably mostly in the wheels I built for it. A treat!

Just scored an 85 frame & fork off of FB Marketplace for very little $$. I've got most of the bits in my parts stash to get it on the road except for the 26.6 seatpost. Here's a pic from the seller:
