My daughter sees a little girl trying a push bike and starts bugging me to ride it. Another little girl takes off around the store on a bike with training wheels. My son who lacks a brain to mouth filter loudly mocks her for having training wheels.

Then I notice the mother is Jennifer Garner and her hubby is standing there too.

Before too much destruction takes place my wife drags me out and to Felini's down the block. We order, and I go back to the shop to try on some shoes. The Affleck's check out and leave. I meet up with my fam at the pizza place and the Affleck clan is there. The kids (theirs, mine, and a couple of others) are running around the fountain causing a general nuisance.

I corral mine and we eat. When we finish, my kids want to throw some pennies in the fountain. Mini Me overshoots the fountain and his penny rolls right under Ms. Garner's chair. He dives for it of course. So I'm left laughing my ass off that my son is in the enviable position of crawling under Jennifer Garner's legs -- a dream come true for most men....

Oh, and I bought the S-Works road shoes. Very comfy.
I'm glad that it wasn't me in your position. I'd have done something stupid I'm sure.

Well, I do anyway, but most of the time, Jennifer Garner isn't around to laugh at me.

I heard that on NPR on my way in this morning, my first thought was if you were ok. I guess that's because you're the only person I know in New Zealand, let alone Christchurch.

Wow gnome. Glad you escaped that.

Two new things for me today:

1) My psimet "roll your own" wheel has been built around my powertap hub, and looks pretty sweet. Kinlin XR-300 with 1x DS, 3x NDS, with thinner 1.5mm spokes on the NDS. It feels like a laterally stiff wheel, which is why I chose that lacing pattern on the DS.

2) I started my sole proprietorship today to build a promising software application for its inventor.

So what is it about 1x crossing on the DS that makes it stiffer as opposed to 2x crossing on each?

It brings the spokes closer to radial, which means they're coming from a part of the hub flange that is closer to their spoke hole in the rim. In the extremely impressive and professional diagram below, the gray spoke is coming from a 3x position in the flange, the red spoke is coming from a 2x position in the flange, and the green spoke is coming from a 1x position in the flange. You can see that there is a minor benefit with the bracing angle for the structure. I'm compounding this with the 3x NDS spokes, giving them the worst possible bracing angle, which requires them to be at a higher tension. The DS with the better bracing angle will be at the same tension they would normally, but they have a better structural advantage, so the NDS spokes need higher tension to match it.

I also ran all the DS spokes heads-in so they all get that same 4mm advantage by starting on that side of the flange.

yeesh. I'm hoping the GWB is ok so I can ride into work again, I enjoyed being back out last week. The ride Sunday was a lot of fun too, and even better since I rode with two of the WS United riders so I had some company.

Right -so, my fiance talked me out of selling the Cervelo & the HED wheel.
Sheesh - how lucky can a guy get - she kept after me until I agreed to NOT sell off my B-bike and a wheel that isn't critical to my success.
