Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The kicker kept them in the game with several field goals. One was around 57 yards. Another hit an upright but went through. And really dumb play calling. It was like they were trying to lose the game.

One noisy cogwheel on an otherwise good, high-end, cassette. Most annoying.

If two out of three ain't bad, what does that make 10 out of 11 or 11 out of 12??

Went hard this morning for the first half of the ride. At one point I was looking down to figure out what cog I was on and I noticed my seats were no longer symmetrical. I found this to be odd, I could have sworn I looked at it the other day and they both looked the same. Roads were wet, so cleaned the bike off when I got home. It might all be in my head but I think the right seat stay is already starting to fail. I took some pictures but it’s hard to see in the pictures.

I am no expert at all, but ... I don't think I would continue riding that frame. Seatstay really does look like it could buckle at any moment, and does that one pic show damage to a chainstay, or just a scrape?

I might be a stick in the mud, but for me nothing beats a red delicious, cold and hard as a rock. Mrs BD tries to introduce me to the fancy new varieties, but I don’t like anything too tart or too sweet.

The Older Boy likes Red Delicious, too. We all think he's weird.

This is a good experiment. I say you keep riding on it and document what happens. For science.

That’s what I plan on doing. Shop won’t replace it until it’s not safe to ride, so I will just measure it everyday. In another thread someone pointed out the wheel doesn’t appear to be centered which is why there is a difference between the two sides when I measured. I have to figure out why the wheel isn’t centered.

If it does break, it shouldn’t be catastrophic. As of right this second I am not completely sure it has changed, I just think it has. I could also be paranoid.

Red Delis are okay, but - as Trsnrtr said - Honey Crisp are where it's at. That said, I haven't tried Cosmic Crisp. I have been known to enjoy a Granny Smith from time to time, especially when paired with cheddar cheese.

As the son of a man who was the son of an apple orchard owner in Washington, my opinion about apples is no better than anyone else's.

Take carful measurements so you know for sure. I hope that is never fails, but if it does, I hope you have a soft landing.

I like a good firm red delicious and I do refrigerate my apples so they are crunchier but they seem to vary a lot in texture or at least they seem to where I buy them.

A little bit of trivia. In my job, I had access to a lot of original maps from the early to mid 1800s and my county was loaded with orchards as indicated on the maps. Acres and acres of orchards but two things happened: the invention of the steel plow and later, the combustion engine. The result was corn and beans became way more profitable than apples, pears, apricots, cherries, etc. The orchards gave way to mass farming and no orchards.

You need a better measuring tool though. Something with lasers.
