I used to love 24, the early seasons. Once he eviscerated a guy the show got too grisly for me. Is that where you got to go to hold an audience, make a buck?

Maybe (if they're actually in it) they'll go to the Knoxville regional.

The problem wasn't with GRRM, at least not past selling the rights before finishing the story. A Song of Ice and Fire is excellent and subtle. Game of Thrones (as distinct from the first volume, A Game of Thrones) is excellent and somewhat subtle... until they outran the novels and finished it in typical Hollywood fashion. Specifically, they leaned straight into every trope that Martin subverted and in doing so eliminated everything that made GoT popular. The flip of public opinion coincided with the HBO writers taking over. Starting somewhat with season 5, it's bad fan fiction.
I'm a gear-***** and stuff like fighters are fascinating and awe-inspiring in and of themselves. The jingoism that often accompanies military-related stuff is a turnoff, though.

Plus, it's usually bad guys getting killed and it's usually quick. With some of the things Mrs J watches, the fiction stuff, it's some psycho bastard torturing and killing defenseless, innocent female characters. To me, if the plot requires the death of an innocent, they can just show the end result and that's enough. To show graphic enactments of men brutally beating and stabbing a girl is not needed.

Gasoline here is $6.30, or so. My neighbor's brother came back to town after 3 years away. He got his truck out of the back yard where it had sat for all that time. After idling it for 30 minutes or so he took it out and smoked the tires up and down our street. I heard it roaring as he raced around the area and then put it back.
Yesterday he took it out again, this time letting it idle for 15 minutes before burning rubber up the street. Oh, and he revved it up to the red line for a few minutes before he left and again when he got back. I thought of this now because he is idling and revving it right now. It has a loud exhaust.
I don't know wtf is wrong with this guy. Before he went away he lived here for a few months and was always finding ways to make as much noise as possible. Our houses are very close to each other and one day he set up a giant boom box pointing at our house and cranked it to 11 while he worked on the fence. I had to scream to get his attention and ask him to turn it down.
His brother's kids had a basketball hoop/backboard thing which was all bent up. He spent hours one day beating on it with a hammer. It was incredible. He was butt-face drunk at the time.

Hot century done. I felt surprisingly good throughout, maybe all the fluid (sorry Velo Vol ) and nutrition and time in the saddle is finally paying off. I felt much better and stronger at the end compared to the 3 friends I rode with.
