This is yet another Eddy Merckx build that has taken a long time to get born. Pretty sure this is the fourth Faema Merckx I've built, but the earlier ones all had something about them that was never quite right for me. On the other hand had a lot of time to do the planning on this one.
Fresh spray on a very solid early 80's Professional frame by Al Wanta, with DA 7400 6 speed, much of it NOS collected over several years. Built the wheels using DA7400 hubs, red anodized Velocity A23's (may yet de-sticker those) and Sapim DB stainless spokes. That's a Rolls Due saddle on a 6400 aero seatpost. Love that new graphene series of Vittoria tires!

Sweet!
Hey Doc, that's not the frame set you got from me, is it? If not, what did you do with it? Just curious.
Edit: Never mind. I see it's the wrong fork.

Which frame did I buy from you, and when? Was it a Faema colorway?

LOL. It was solid red, with rust. You said something about repainting in Molteni orange, IIRC. That was almost two years ago.

Oh, geez, yes, I remember that one. Took a long time to bring it back and deal with the rust. I think we replaced all of the top tube cable guides on that one. Took a while to smooth it out, but turned out well, I think. Eventually wound up in dark grey metallic with red logos and Dura Ace 6 speed group, sold it to a local guy who got ill and later resold it (at a profit, if I recall correctly).
I'll see if I can dig up a picture of the finished bike, it turned out exceptionally well.
Aha! Found it!

So many nice Merckx's If only someone would trade my too small 10th anniversary 56cm for something comparable in 60cm or bigger, frame for frame or maybe complete.
Mine is mostly not original, some original spec, mostly later Ultegra.

New project recently completed. 1998 Corsa Extra in white, 62cm with DA9100 11sp gruppo. Still looking for the right crankset.
Absolutely immaculate frame, it's been wrapped in blanket for at least ten years.

^ I'm not sure why you're in the game of making replicas, seems to be enough fakes out there without needing to add to it.
IMO the carbon fork and stumpy threadless stem with spacers let this build down. The Michelin tyres look a bit pedestrian on a racing bike, some nice gumwalls would look the part, not to mention aligning the tyre labels with the valves.

Likely valid points to be sure, however, nothing that can't be undone or redone.
Totally upfront about it being a "replica", very nice job of it too, his call, no harm, no foul.
