Thanks.
My lovely wife is very creative. That pond began its life as a pool, but we didn't use it. It has a wrap around natural filtration system, on two sides, made up of gravel and plant roots, with water pumped through the gravel. A closed system with a skimmer and 'Skippy Filter' at the pump entrance.
It's a delightful place to live. And she is a delightful person to live with.

I should probably take this to the 50+, but I have become more and more aware of my presbyopia (poor near vision) over the past few weeks. At 57, I know I am overdue for needing "cheaters" reading glasses but I was hoping to dodge that bullet for awhile longer.

I thought I needed readers in my 50s. They put me straight onto progressive tri-focals.

My wife picked up her new prescription yesterday. Not coincidentally, last night she discovered that one of her houseplants has spider mites.

You've never used readers? Most of us need them before age 57, I think. I started needing them to read in my 40s but was able to get by on the bike and driving until later. I started using off the shelf readers on the bike several years ago and they work fine. I especially wanted the help on the mtb.

You done good getting to 57. I was around 47 when I noticed my 20/20 was slipping away.

I, OTOH, have astigmatism AND increasing presbyopia, so neither holding things close nor far away is much help. Even so, I have always been able to pass the eye test for driving, so I'm not required to wear glasses.

My friend, who is your age, wears a contact lens in one eye for everything. We were on a ride once and it migrated up under his eyelid. Must have been annoying.

Over time, what you think is "super-fine print" evolves....

Just yesterday I had my annual ophthalmology exam. She said my eyes are so bad that a new prescription will only marginally help; the two eyes are moving in opposite directions from normal.
It's time for cataract surgery.
