Went to a couple bike shops today looking for a new rain jacket for our Door County tour next week. I took my wife and the total bill was ~$500.
Me: rain jacket and 5 CO2 carts, ~$100
Her: rain jacket, 3/4 tights, jersey, shorts, gloves. ~$400
A cycling spouse is expensive, especially since she already has more shorts, tights, jerseys, gloves, etc. than I do.
Actually, it’s handy having an avid cyclist for a spouse. She never complains about MY cycling habits.

It looks like my Garmin HR strap is toast. I just did the Zwift Academy Baseline Ride, and it seems highly unlikely that I can put out an average of 821w for 25 seconds and have my HR sit unchanged at 105, or for that matter 270w for 10 minutes while my HR FALLS from 140 to 120. Really buggered the long climb effort, not knowing my HR.

Squirrel tried to murder-suicide me on this morning's ride. Three times it fakes darting in front of me before continuing to pace, then finally shouts #YOLO and runs right into my wheel. Fortunately it whacks its head on my wheel and maybe gets a paw under my tire, then dashes into the brush yelping.

Recall the RD shift lever on the Habanero was broken. The big lever shifter would not ratchet. I tried spraying mucho lube into the mechanism but no luck. Since I am a hoarder, I already had a set of backup shifters from ScamBay so after today’s ride I replaced it. Threading external brake and shift cables is stupid easy. Job already done with no F bombs.

The more I think about it, the more I am inclined to simply get an Ultegra R8000 groupset (currently going for about $1000US) for the Habanero. I expect that’s more than adequate for my needs. I can keep the leftover 10s schwag for the Roubaix and the CX bikes. Since the Roubaix has internal cables I might eventually get a Di2 drivetrain for it.

Distressing news for Velo Vol
The Mighty Owls didn't look very mighty in defeating their NAIA* opponent 35 - 25 Thursday night. The Marching Owls were horrible. Lots of rust after the 2 year covid intermission.
sad
