Ya I'm sorta the opposite as a smaller guy. High w/kg but not crazy high absolute W. It's rare for me to crack over 1200w. But, I have seen 1000 for 15s which is solid. I like things to be slower, headwind I can pop out of, slight uphill drag etc. I have good acceleration but I get steamrolled by guys like you in long, fast sprints.
But I've lost my nerve for sprinting from a group with much more than 5-10 riders. I don't have the nerves of steel anymore and get spooked with all the energy. So instead I attack. I can do quite well from a group of 3-5 after some hard miles.
Takes all kinds of sprinters to make a world!

I thrived on the psychotic energy at the end of a crit. Getting to the fitness point of being able to be in control was a big factor in that. It seemed like things always went best when I had a moment of panic/desperation where I was unsure if I was going to be able to get where I needed to be. Bike handling skills from years of MTBing certainly helped.. These days, however, no thank you.
I always believed that every type of road racer should work on their sprint. Whether you're battling a full field in a crit, or one other guy at the top of a long climb, you're going to have to out-sprint someone, sometime. It's a valuable weapon.

best $3 I ever spent : $3 cover charge to see the Houserockers play there on a Saturday night
was a year or so short of 21 at the time - but ‘modified’ my driver license so I could be admitted
this license worked on any / every normal night - except for when a big / upcoming act would be there … The Police for example … then they would require photo ID (I did not have photo ID)
found this out the hard way - but later found a way to get in … would walk past the crowd / line to the entrance - and show ink on hand / whatever and tell them I had just left and was returning
had to do this at another area night spot - Mancini’s lounge (McKees Rocks) when they had a big act … Pat Benatar … Replacements …
found this audio - The Police @ The Decade … 1979

I lived in a pick-up truck with a shell for a short time in 1973-4. It was like a van, nothing but a bed and storage. A friend had a panel truck he slept in and we saved money and eventually rented a house.
One night we had parked on a quiet street and in the morning he was sitting in his front seat strumming his guitar and a neighbor called the cops. Cops came and were questioning my friend and one of the cops rapped on my door with his club which startled me and I sat up quickly and caught my hair on the roof vent and ripped out a big lock of it. It hurt a lot and when I opened the door and saw the cop I was pretty upset with him. The cop was about to give me a hard time until I pointed out the glob of hair hanging from the roof vent. My friend saw it and said "Look at that!"
Anyway we found a rental house and were happy to get indoor plumbing.
