Our neighbors down the street (with whom Mrs. GJ does "Wine O'Clock" most late afternoons) got a pair of Apple Watches for switching to some new wireless carrier, but it turns out their phones are Android so the watches are useless to them. So they gave us one. I've spent the last week wearing it every day, and I'm damned if I know what use it is. Sure, it can check my HR, but I can do that with a regular watch with a second hand. And it "VVVVPs" my wrist for all kinds of crap - news, texts, etc. But too small to read and impossible to respond.
Along with the Apple Watch, I've been carrying a pocket watch that's about 70 years old. I wound it up and set it two weeks ago, and have just wound it every morning and carried it every day. The Apple Watch sets its time via the internet. Here they are, two weeks since I set the PW:
The other thing about the Apple Watch is that you have to flick your wrist to see the time. A regular watch, you can just angle your wrist a little and its visible. And the Apple Watch turns off after a second.
I tried using it while riding yesterday, but whenever I tried to look at the time, it kept asking me didn't I want to record the exercise I was doing? No, I'm already recording it on my Garmin. And try as I might, I couldn't get it to stop doing that. If I wanted to see the time, I had to swipe that screen off with my other hand. Useless.

We're a Peets household. Major Dickason's blend more often than not, but if Sumatra is on sale...
But I'm a heathen. I need coffee to be available as soon as I stumble out to the kitchen, so The Younger Boy sets it up the night before. No coffee ritual for me.

But once in a blue moon I'll have a shot of something fresh and bright chased with acqua minerale.

Back to mechanical this AM. Later in the day, I'll dig out one of my "Christmas Watches" - the ones with the 12/25 engravings - for Christmas dinner wear.
