Trek FX 7.2 2017

Hey I'm planning on getting this bike -- got a good deal for 400 on Chain Reactions. Is there anything I should know before purchasing it? What should I add on the bike, and which parts should I consider replacing?

I'd ride it for a while before changing anything - see what works for you and your riding style, and what doesn't. I switched out the grips for Ergons on mine, and added a bottle cage.

Wait - is there such a thing as a 2017 7.2FX? Correct me if I'm wrong, but AFAIK, the last model year for the "7.xFX" naming format was 2016; they switched to the "FX x" naming discipline as of the 2017 model year.

No there isn't but what probably happened is the store had a 2016 FX 7.2 that never sold and this person is now buying it in 2017.

first post

How does the FX 3 compare with the Giant Escape 1? Both have composite fork which is what I want. I believe GIANT has more value, has anyone compared them personally? thanks

So after I got my FX 2 and was having so much fun riding it, Mrs Aahzz decided she needed one too - so here is a pic of both of them

After riding a Giant Sedona DX for 3 seasons I just upgraded to the Trek FX-4 Sport. What a HUGE difference! I love my new bike!

32 tire vs 35, comfort difference?

so glad to find a fx group online, thanks for all the information. I love my fx3, it's such a joy on a smooth road, although coming from a big tire mountain bike, I sometimes feel a bit insecure to jump to a footpath or on a bumpy road when commuting and wish it could have stronger grip, just wondering how much difference will it make if I change the current aw1 32c to 35 tires in term of the comfort? Many thanks!

the family fleet of FXs is assembled. whether it's 6 nights or 4, the prep is still the same

go for it. love wider tires on these bikes. run them a tiny bit lower in pressure for a more comfy ride. personally, I just switched to Michelin Proteks & find they can run at a lower pressure but not deform a lot at the bottom

Hi, I'm new to this Bike Forum and it's great to be here! I love the positive energy this Forum has and it's always nice to know users with such great knowledge.

I just bought a used Trek FX 7.0 (good condition, it was just collecting dust) and I noticed that I only see FX 7.1 to 7.6, but nothing about 7.0. Is there any Information about FX 7.0 that I should be worried about? I looked on Google and it gave good Reviews.

Damn, I've always wanted to experience riding in that kind of weather, just once hehe. We don't get that kind of weather in Texas though. Keep riding my friend!

Hi guys. The new 2018 Trek FX's are up already! Usually they show up in August but they're here early

The biggest change looks like almost all of the FX's come with DISC brakes. I know this is a hotly debated topic but I certainly don't do the type of riding that requires disc brakes... I wonder what everyones sentiments will be about this...

Hahaha same here but I visit the Trek site once in a while just to see what's new

I'm at 4 bikes right now: 2 FX's, 1 Emonda and an older Lotus with riser bars. I think my wife would lose it if I got another bike

Sorry I deleted my original post because I was replying in a hurry and wanted to address the disc brakes thing better. But yes, damn it I don't need to be looking at new bikes today LOL.

Regarding the disc brakes, I don't think they are a deciding factor for me when getting a new bike. I mean my Madone has rim brakes and it stops really really well. However I do think that disc brakes look really cool on any bike. If they stop the bike better than the stock rim brakes on the 7.2 FX that I use, then that makes it a good upgrade for the new models.

Looks like Trek has made the FXS6 frame specific and isn't sharing the Domane frame anymore. Looks like the S6 is more geared towards light trail now with 32c tires, a more universal seat, and a 86.5 press fit BB. It no longer has the ISO Zone fork, Shimano hydraulic brakes, the 15mm front thru-axle hub, tapered headset, or the flush mounted Duotrap sensor, and it gained a pound of weight. I haven't gone over the geometry yet, but I bet its more inline with the Sirrus Carbon and Giant CoMax carbon bikes now.

I didn't check the S5 and S6. If that is true, then you got one of the last Domane based FX bike.
