My B17 on my Surly...only 300kms on it but it's already nice and comfy with almost 2 imperceptible dimples where the sit-bones press on it.

As Brooks owners I feel that we have all experienced scrapes and even large scruffs. I believe I have stumbled across a way to make larger scruff look less like a horrid scar and more like normal age wear.
While shellacing the trekking bars on my Safari I accidently brushed the tip of my B17. I was furious at first and was bewildered by the possible negative effects of this mistake. But soon, after contemplating cleaning solutions, I noticed the amber shellac on my black B17 had covered an ugly scruff. This made the grey/white scruff look deep and brown, much like what a honey Brooks looks like after a few thousand miles of use (brown but dark enough to be black).
Now the shellac only covered a small section and appears to have not negatively effected the saddle. I have considered doing this with the other 3-4 large corner scruffs I have on the B17. Does anyone know much about how shellac effects leather? Any long term things I should consider.
Hopefully I can have pictures up some time this week.

the shellac should have little effect long term. any shellac 'sitting' on the surface will probably wear off over time, and any shellac that has soaked in more won't cause any damage. but do keep in mind that shellac is sensitive to moisture, such as rain (as well as heat and alcohol). if exposed to a lot of moisture in a small time period (like leaving the saddle out in the rain) the shellaced area might take on a white haze. this shouldn't effect perfromance, but will probably be visually noticeable.
