My car battery was dead this morning and I couldn't get the Mrs' car in front to jump it so I took the battery out of her car to jump it. By the time I did all that it was too late to make the ride start so I drove ahead to meet them along the way. I did the 28 mile climb with them once they showed up and when they decided to take a different route back I went the original route by myself. Lots of headwind and climbing.
I felt like being alone anyway and I kept thinking about Pcad and how that has happened to friends before, as well as other members of my club. I didn't come to any conclusions and I feel strange posting this here, but who else can I talk about it with? I didn't mention it to the people on the ride today even though I thought about it.
Not trying to bring anyone down and I figured you guys would understand.
Has Velo Vol been back?

Gracias. Interestingly it’s now tough to find them on sale (which is a change from a couple years ago). Since even ScamBay selling at MSRP I suppose I will support the LBS and buy in person.

My MTB is quite loud but I don't mind too much, I'd like to think that it helps with avoiding an unpleasant hiker interaction.

I hit my ride too hard. Well, I hit it hard enough that I didn't have much left in the tank at the end, so I'm going to need to seriously rein it in for a metric double of my own. I should really work on that...
Anybody know where I could pick up some tips on pacing for longer rides?![Innocent](images/smilies/innocent.gif)

It was muggy as hell today though, so once the mercury rose there was no way to keep it as low as I wanted.

What we can do is mitigate the risk to others. Insurance is important, especially long term care insurance, and everyone should have a very clear understanding with their loved ones. My wife is down with me riding on the roads and racing on the ocean because that’s the kind of guy she wanted to spend her life with.

sorry to hear that amigo. We think we’re gunna start trying to buy one in the spring. Currently the houses are only lasting about 10 days on the market, and we need a little more funds to be competitive. Also, losing a house that we really want would destroy the wife.
We could still get it, but after what we’ve already been through with the search I’m not super positive on the prospect.

amazon had (perhaps still has) quite a good deal on 24 oz Polar insulated bottles, but being vertically challenged, I opted for 20 oz ones.

He's the first cyclist killed out on the road that wasn't a complete stranger to me. It sits a little differently.

I can't say that, unfortunately. He was a stranger on the other side of the country but we had some little chats on FB and every time some politician did something crazy I would run to the computer to see what Pcad said about it, or forward the story to him and watch for his reaction. This was more important to me during isolation.

Knowing about how his life had changed quite a bit recently, has just made it hit even harder for me. He was cut short just as he was finding a stride. When I first saw the news, my heart couldn’t have fallen further than it did. I could only say no over and over.
We used to also chat a lot about things that now just seems futile... like the election, his stock investments, etc. It’s weird to know that now he’s just suddenly gone and none of that will matter for him anymore.
This blows.

Understand totally. My first thought was to come back to BF so I could be around people who knew him the same way I did.

Silver Comet Fred
I had been relegated to the roads instead of the Silver Comet trail from early March until early June and it wasn't pleasant. I am going to avoid the roads as much as possible for the forseeable future.
