Year of no summer?
Year of no summer?
I was out riding when we set the all-time record. Oh yes. As I recall I did a 20-25 mile ride. No water consumed.

Well I’m gunna have to get my eyes checked. They have been bothering me for a while but tonight proved it. I rode by a house that was for sale and I couldn’t read the numbers on the mail box. Wanted to get the address to look it up.
I can see fine but reading letters and numbers are very hard to make out more than 100 feet away.
Anybody else have this issue?

Taking a short family trip. Visited a state park along the north shore, including a hike to the top of a cliff overlooking the lake. The fog hiding the drop did nothing to ease the amount of 'nope' that I was feeling.

yes. i just had my eyes check in april. It has gotten progressively harder for me to read the rows of letters on the chart. Our eye sight also doesn’t have to be perfect to fly airplanes and my eye sight is acceptable but on a personal level I don’t like that I am having trouble reading and seeing detail at distance if that makes sense.

It would be perfectly rational if she formally renounced the Gators. Commendable, even.
What did you do at 3 a.m.?
Well I'm glad Velo Vol is back. As of today my attempted sleep time will be 8PM til 4AM. I missed it badly today. If I keep on getting up at 4, it will quickly resolve itself. In Belize, it was more like 7-3, but it got dark at 6:30 and it was so damned hot during the day, it was nice to have a few hours if pleasant weather in the morning. And we were out in the jungle. It was just natural to go to sleep with the chickens.

Failed to unclip at a stop sign this morning. Hurt my ego and screwed up my bar tape. Also lost my bar end.
Thankfully fell non drive side and I don’t see any scratches or bent things on the bike.

Well, guess what? 39 seconds faster than slow is still slow. Gotta get more Strava-kaze with the intersections.

I was talking to mrs datlas about the Garmin Varia radar and how a lot of cyclists I know are using it. She actually suggested I go ahead and get one.
Only question is do I get the RTL510 for $150 or the RTL515 for $200. DCRainmaker says the main benefits are the newer device has bluetooth and maybe a couple extra modes but really not much of a difference so I am inclined to get the 510.
Should I start a thread? With a poll???

Honestly, I'm not even sure what gearing combo I'd need - I can't even think of an 8% that I'm familiar with. We do have some hills in the area that are ~11%, but they're so short that they're done in a couple minutes, which is good, because I don't think that I could spin under FTP in my lowest ratio, which is 34/25.
On that note, since I'm not in a hurry to get back to group rides, I've been thinking that I might revisit a wider range cassette... But then again, that'd only be worth it if I went someplace with sustained climbs...

One one of the things I like about living here is that we have tons of terrain and hills that get steep, most are over in 4-5 minutes but there are others that take a while. It’s not hard to find a short hill that gets over 10%.
