Not Ready for Prime Time
No photos this time, sorry. But I'm getting back into my cycling commute after what has been, and still is, a looonnnggg winter. I rode my studded-tire Barracuda A2B winter bike a few times on that commute, but all the faffing around with gear and arriving all sweaty at work (where we have no showers) quickly reduced the appeal of that.
But yesterday I rode my Raleigh Wyoming to work in thirty-degree weather under clear skies, and it was in the forties for the ride back to my car, which I park 5 miles away. Not having my routine down, I quickly discovered that I had left my keys in my desk. And now it was raining...
Ten wet miles later I drove the rest of the way home. The bike is in the garage this morning.

When your monitor shows an alarming pulse reading, check the pulse directly. The carotid pulse is easy to detect.

Just got home... I rode from my house down to the James River here in Richmond, VA and back. Total: 14.85 miles in 1 hr 2 min for an (avg) speed of 14.4 mph. I stopped briefly at the Z-Dam along the river and shot a quick video with my smartphone:

Spring has sprung not too far from the Red Dog.

Where's that?
I got out for my standard 25-mile out-n-back to Redmond/Marymoor Park.
Thought me thinks while I blew the dust off this:
It was a good day.

I had to abort last week's planned 50-mile ride around a third of the way in because of knee pain. (I hereby publicly vow never to try to ride the Ronde de PDX again.) The knee was still feeling a bit sore on Thursday so instead of the ~60 mile ride with lots of climbing that I should have been doing this weekend to get ready for Eroica, I did a 25-mile ride, rested for a couple of hours, and then did a 30-mile ride -- both as flat as I could possibly make them.
The 25-miler was a loop around the Fanno Creek Trail and out Tile Flat Road before making my way back home. The 30-miler was my standard Hillsboro - Forest Grove loop along the start of the Tualatin Valley Scenic Bikeway and back north of Hillsboro. I don't have a lot of pictures to share, but here's one of what made the day particularly memorable for me. This was my first time riding my '73 De Rosa -- only slightly more than six months after I bought it.
I hadn't noticed until just now how well my water bottle full of orange Gatorade matches the bike.

Not anymore! I mean, it doesn't look like I was eating Cheetos, but it also doesn't look like I just finished wrapping the bars.
Actually, Cheetos is a good idea to at least get the stains to match the bike.

No Cheetos today. A blue streak.
I took the Grandis out for 45 miles. Not much traffic this morning. Took a few pics here and there.
I stopped at Ferns in Carlisle, a popular cyclist destination but of course they were closed and the place was deserted at first.
So while I was eating a miniature lunch another cyclist rode up and commented on my bike. Cool! He was riding a thoroughly modern Pinarello with hydraulic disk brakes and computer controlled maneuvering jets and a curious reverse-bend fork to act in place of the main deflector array.
So I had to get a pic of Old and New together.
We spoke about bikes for a while. While we were gabbing another guy rode up and asked "Whose bike is this?" I told him and he said he had one, circa 1984, his first racing bike. Cool! Then another cyclist we've met and ridden with happened to ride by, which meant more opportunity to talk instead of ride. Eventually I returned home with a stop of two along the way.
