Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Natty Light is good at helping people vaguely remember things.

Isn't Natty from the Land of Pleasant Living?

I remember hearing about this drink in college, but I was too uptight to imbibe then.

Natural Light, one of the 5 pavilions at the now defunct Busch Gardens. You could get 2 beers at each pavilion. Slam a 6-pack on the way there and by the time you were done you could be butt-faced.

I’m outside the Four Seasons. Astros must be staying here. There are a some fans outside and some limo/shuttle looking vehicles.

I heard there were some restaurants that adamantly REFUSED to serve the Astros in Philly. I understand the Philly spirit, but refusing to serve food to a fellow American seems awfully mean IMO.

I think that's a "distortion of the truth." I saw a report about that on 6 ABC. According to the owner of a BBQ place, the organization called looking for "latin food", which he doesn't make. The other place featured was a pizza place that closes at something like 3 pm. They wanted 10 pies for after the game. He wasn't going to stick around to make them pizza.

Aha. That, I would believe. The way it was reported on the radio, the places refused to serve them because they were Astros.

The city that loves you back?? Possibly not.

To be honest, it does sound like something that might possibly happen here.

Bad things happen in Philadelphia

What kind of pizza place closes at 3pm? It seems to me like a whole lot of pizza gets sold for dinner.

Sarcone’s makes the BEST tomato pie in Philly IMO, and they run out by 2PM (at least when I lived there). But they are more of a bakery than a pizza place.

When I was a ute, my Dad drank National Premium, which was a reasonably good pilsener, at a time when pretty much all beers were pilseners.

This was in Pennsylvania, where you could buy up to 2 6-packs at a bar, or a minimum of a case at a Beer Distributor. There was a bar in town where we never went. Perhaps it attracted "The Wrong Crowd", though in a town that small it's hard to imagine it attracting ANY crowd. So Dad bought beer at the Distributor in Gettysburg, which meant that buying beer was making a fairly serious commitment. I mean, you might buy a 6-pack of a beer you've never had, and it it's really bad you only ever bought 6 of it. But a case is 24 bottles! So he didn't experiment much.

Later, he switched to Yuengling, which was/is also a reasonably good pilsener, though they also sell a rather thin porter. But they have the distinction of being the oldest brewery in America. AND being brewed in Pennsylvania.

EDIT: Apparently Pennsylvania made no provision for anyone who wanted to buy THREE 6-packs.

Adventures in Sizes for cycling clothing - Last year I bought some lightweight Pearl Izumi tights, to replace my 20+ year old ones that had started disintegrating. I went over their size chart very carefully and ordered the L. Despite being an XL in just about every other brand, I had ordered a PI jersey based on their size chars, and it fit great. The tights fit fine.

Fast forward to now. I wanted to replace my 20+ year old windfront thermal tights. BikeTiresDirect was having a sale on last year's PI AmFib tights. So I ordered the L, since experience and the size chart said they should fit. Haha. I managed to fight my way into them. It would have been impossible to ride a bike with them, though, because my knee would never be able to bend far enough to turn the pedals. And I had an even bigger fight getting out of them.

So, I ordered the XLs, which damn well better fit since BTD doesn't have any 2XLs.

This reminds me....

I have a sage green Le Col Pro II jersey in Large, if anyone is interested (cheap!). Fantastic material and quality. It turns out I'm an XL in Le Col's stuff.

Me too. Pro jersey in XL JUST fits. So, a Large would fit a significantly smaller person.

Yep. I have a wide shoulder structure, which sometimes is a bigger factor in fit for me than just chest circumference. Sure is nice fabric, though.

I'm ordering 2XL jerseys, while wearing a size L t-shirt.. Not a fan of the skin tight look. Asian sizing too.

I wear 2XL PI shorts and they get a little loose above the knee as they age. I guess my guads aren't massive enough. 2XL in jerseys too but I have a LG jersey that I really like that is a bit tight on the aerobelly.
I also have a Gore 2XL jersey that looks like it was painted on and nobody needs to see that but it makes a great base layer in cooler weather. I think the PI base layer I like is about the same price as that jersey.
