I have dated no Irish women. An Italian/Lebanese one who was a delight. A first generation Mexican-American. I had a single date with a German woman. And a Finnish woman while traveling in Guatemala. I think that’s all the international experience I have.

$1 16 oz. Iron City bottles got me through law school during lean times. Amazingly, IC Lite was even worse. It was a “girl beer” in Pittsburgh.
Never understood the RR craze. The only upside is that they sold 7 oz. “Ponies” so they would not get warm during summer BBQs.
We used to sell Old German quarts at the deli where I worked in ‘86. $1.

"Arn" was one of his few remaining Pittsburghisms. That and "Dahntahn" for downtown. I don't think I ever heard him say "yinz".

Rare opportunity for a double ride day, before and after work. Just hopped off the trainer for a routine hour on the TT bike, 1x30 and 1x15' pretty light, just keeping my body used to being folded in half.
This evening I think I'll make my annual appearance at the Fiesta Island World Championships (FIWC) ride. It's a stupid, stupid ride. It attracts a lot of newbie racers and other plebeians who get excited about it, and the worst part - cars. At least not as much as there are later in the summer. I slow/stop behind cars unless they make an obvious courtesy gesture to move over, but many others like to shoot up the sides and around them, which is not safe when the group is over a certain size. Even if there aren't any crazed cyclists out there, it sucks to have to let off the gas when I'm putting on the pressure.
I should probably ride my new MTB instead. Or go to the track and do the madison workout if I want some intensity. Doing FIWC once sort of feels like a box I need to check lol, might as well just get it over with.

the good news : low miles (47 K or something like that) - and clean (was a California / Texas car for majority of it’s life)
the bad news : sat for a long long time
unfortunately my dated sketchy experience with rochester quadrajets and holleys is of little use

2 hour spin around the bike path. Walkers and kids out today. Must be off school and it's a nice day. Some of the little kids are a menace and it's the parents fault.
Rarely any kids out there on weekday. Anyway I avoided mayhem. Rain might be coming back by Friday so we'll see about a club ride Saturday.

but you cannot run over the kids

The last 30 years I did primarily diagnosis of driveability issues. Intermittent crap that didn't make sense. Stuff that was not repeatable. False codes, software and programming problems. Mostly warranty (therefore warranty pay). I got pretty good at guessing and my instinct was good. Sometimes I would lie awake at night wondering what was wrong with a car. Thousands upon thousands of cars. At least 10 cars per day, sometimes over 20.
If I had to do it again and stay in a dealer I would do the same specialty. Much less physically demanding than an engine tech (hate doing that) or a brake and front end guy. I think the most money now is a transmission tech but the pressure is extremely high as is the ass busting. Trans techs are very hard to find and dealers try to steal them from other dealers. The trans man at my old job makes more than I ever dreamed possible but he is constantly overwhelmed with work and has 2 full time helpers. He's not 40 yet and I wonder how long he can stay with it at his current pace.

if I was that dealer I would have sent a limo to transport you to and from the dealership !

When I announced that I was retiring they asked me to stay because the guy they tried to body snatch from another dealer changed his mind about taking my place. The 2 guys they did have who were supposed to render me obsolete were not up to the task. Partly because they didn't want to spend their time on diagnosis and were more interested in flagging 10 hours on a 30k service with upsells.
The manager and advisors asked me to come back every time I visited to have lunch with the guys or get something for my car but after 4 years the guy they wanted finally left his other job and came over. He's a lot like me, happy to grind through mountains of warranty work.

"Redd up your room" was also popular in Adams County, east of the Alleghenies.

I had lunch with 4 other cycling friends (including the one who is off the bike from the crash, he will be able to get back on the road in a month). The initial chitchat was interesting, and topics included my feelings about Di2, tubeless vs tubes, SRAM vs Shimano, the new anticipated Karoo head unit that allegedly will integrate with the new (coming soon) Etap Red.
However after awhile the conversation drifted into FTP tests and training. All the other guys use power meters and do FTP tests and pay at least some (and most of them too much) attention to their power date during/after a ride. I personally find this unpleasant as I love to ride and this type of analysis takes the fun out of riding for me. Plus, none of these guys are racers and honestly we are all more-or-less at the same level. I found myself zoning out and checked out of most of the rest of the discussion.
I occasionally pointed out that since we are not racers it makes more sense to focus on the joy of riding and not the training. My comments fell on deaf ears.
Sigh.
