Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You may find this interesting:

"At one time, schoolchildren were taught that a sentence should never end with a preposition. However, this is a philosophy actually associated with Latin grammar. While many aspects of Latin have made their way into the English language, this particular grammar rule is not suited for modern English usage."

How about the death of the Oxford comma? As it dies, things get a little ambiguous.

The reason why I want sports RX glasses is for better impact protection on the sides, like rockes, cases, etc...

The zenni glasses were indeed transitions.

Heard a similar joke about two women on an airplane.

First woman says, "Where are you from?"

Second woman says, "From a place where we don't end our sentences with a preposition."

First woman says, "Let me rephrase that. Where are you from, B**tch?

It used to be very rare, because it represents an esoteric situation. Interesting thing is that the more it is used wrong, the more popular it is becoming.

Laser 'em. 0 Complaints with my laser job, 3 years out. Epi-Lasik so crap recovery time and painful. Magic afterwards. No halos at night or any weird side effects. Worst I've had is if I drink my face off my eyes will be dry in the middle of the night.

Got the tornado warning public service announcement on my phone last night at 2 am that apparently didn't wake me up. Then some wind rustling and hail woke me up for like 2 minutes, but I went back to sleep. In the morning I saw the announcement on my phone.

Co-worker was hiding in a closet in his house with his entire family and dogs.

I'm starting to think I'm shaping up to be a a ****ty Texan, LOL.

Super stormy here in Houston too. Just finished wiping down and lubing the three bikes. Made a slight saddle adjustment on the Chinabomb. The day is shaping up to be quite productive. Whether or not we can get out for lunch will determine the overall success of the day, however. That is the primary purpose of getting up in the morning.

A gal at a bar told me that it would take me 2 years to make a friend in Dallas, and that I'm on the outskirts of social engagement if I'm not status-enthusiastic. As a Prada bag holder I suppose she was speaking from experience.

I served an 18-month sentence, er, I mean, internship in Dallas a while back.

The Texans would all invariably say to me in the most reverent tones when I'd tell them that I was newly arrived from California: Well, it took you all your life to get here, but you're here now. I was so happy when I got back to California.

Anyway, looks like a tornado ripped through Rockwall? It's that time of year.

Austin ain't so bad, though, except for all that traffic.

So do I.

Still, there is a difference. In LA you at least get the ocean breezes in the Summer, whereas in Austin you roast in 105% temps plus 90% humidity or something along those lines.

I have to admit that so far I'm enjoying the experience here very much so even through some of my less graceful learning/educational points. No place is perfect - although a Texan may disagree with you on that matter

I think Dallas is as much its own animal as Austin could be. Would I jive better with the locals of Austin? Hard to say as I'm a bit of a salad-bar at the end of the day based on my upbringing; but there would be a bit more of an accessible music/bar scene I believe.

I have yet to even step foot in California. Cousin's getting married out there in the fall so I'll have my first exposure. Hear it's the holy grail for cyclists and outdoor folk regardless of your viewpoints.

Oh, I protest too much. And, I admit I'm just giving these Texans a bit of a tweak, is all. I enjoyed my riding days on the outskirts of Dallas quite a bit, actually.

In Colorado we say in the least reverent tones: GTFO

When I lived in Texas for that short time I took EVERY opportunity that came my way to go to Durango to ride. When you are born and raised in a mountainous state the flat plains are just so hard to take.

While such temperature and humidity combinations are essentially unknown, you get no argument from me about it being hot and muggy. There is nothing wrong with Houston that three months in the Sierras doesn't fix.

I'll tell you what I did like about riding in Texas: in my experience, the drivers were amazingly polite to me as a cyclist. At first I was afraid to go out riding, thinking that all those Texan rednecks were out to get me. Nothing could have been further from the truth! They would invariably drive way around me on the road and I never had a bad experience, myself. Of course, I heard a few horror stories from other cyclists; but I never ran into anything bad.
