Oh... I didn't see those because I was looking for silver ones. I just saw the silver ones though and they were sold out anyway. Is there a reason you'd recommend the 18's over the 13's?

They're wider, which will allow bigger tires and a more comfortable ride with improved handling. Have they shipped yet? If not you can probably call them and ask if they happen to have any silver ones they could have machine built.

They haven't shipped yet. I just placed the order. I'll give them a call here in just a bit and see if they can swap me for the 18's. Even if I have to wait on them. For what it's worth, though, I'd probably only go up to a 700c x 35 tire at the most so I think the 13's should be fine. I'll call VM and see what they say. Thanks!

+1 for cr18's, theyre even wider than A23's which give you more volume in your tires for more cush and traction
theyre also bomb proof as ive done thousands of miles on the set i have in every weather and temperature and every terrain including northeastern singletrack, ive only broken a single spoke

its hard to describe, but traction/handling can feel "vague" or "squirmy"
if youve ever ridden a slow leak to the point of barely enough to not scrape rim and felt like you were riding around in mud, its kinda like that

Yes it'll feel bad. Squiggly insecure feeling because the tire is trying to roll off the rim when you corner. If you want big tires, which I think is a good idea for the job this bike will have, just get the wider rims. Or even wider rims.

Thanks... I've got a message in to Velomine to swap out my 13's for 18's. Hopefully they can make it happen, even if I have to wait until they come back in stock.

On those Schwinns I showed you, I have 35mm tires on WIDE rims. The resulting shape of the tire is nice and round and it provides a really solid stable feeling when I carve a turn hard.

Yesterday I was telling Matthew how surprised I was by how much differently tires measure on different rims. Same "35mm" tire on narrow rim measures just under 32. On the wide rim it measures almost 37mm. Huge change.

inside, theyre old mavic open pros
same tires on cr18s has a profile that look like tubs, akin to 23mm tires on A23's
similarly on my surly people are running the same 3" tires on 40mm rims and theirs are half an inch slimmer than when mounted on the 50mm rabbit holes i have. thats a huge difference in traction

Just ordered some stuff for both of my bikes
Fuji - Porteur Bars from VO and a VO Leather Saddle - Aiming to turn this into more of a townie bike. Didn't pull the trigger on fenders yet..I'm probably going to wait until winter rolls around before deciding which ones to get
Kilo - Chrome stem spacers, temple bell with the spacer bell mount, and a silver stem cap. The black spacers were bothering me with my chrome stem and seat post.

I have a 2.4" (60 mm) tire on 19mm rims on my rigid mtb. It feels a little squirmy but not unreasonable. I am planning one getting a wider front rim eventually.

Lots of rims are way skinnier than 19 if we are talking inside bead seat width. Maybe we aren't both talkin inside measurement?
