Yeah he said the riding there looks fantastic. He brought pedals and shoes but apparently it was all work and no play.

One of my riding buddies works for a startup that makes bike computers. He is a software guy. I just texted him if he can ride tomorrow, and he said he cannot as he is in Italy with pro team ISN at their training camp. I wont say which company, but they make a product that sounds like a marsupial that jumps. Sadly, he did not get to do any riding but he got to hang out in the team car while the team was out training.

Apparently he is there to help out with any possible software glitches. I believe they already have a relationship with ISN so more along the lines of product support.

The original Karoo struck me as interesting, but half-baked. The Karoo 2 looks interesting and viable, but I recall seeing something that made me pause... can't remember what that was, now, but I think that it had something to do with data transfer. Anywho, maybe the third iteration will be the replacement for my Garmin a few years down the line.

Yeah, I just looked at their Insta and they announced the partnership earlier in the year. Very cool.

As of now, our trip to LA for mid-August to drop daughter #2 off for college and do some cycling is on.
However, the covid19 case rates in LA county have doubled each of the past 2 weeks and if that trend continues it may become a problem in another month.
Assuming I can go, a friend who lives here but travels extensively says he co-owns a 61 cm Specialized road bike that I can borrow. It may be a smidge of a stretch but looks tough to find a rental for anything more serious than a beach cruiser, so I will likely accept the offer.

I keep waiting patiently to get one that "fell off the back of the truck" but so far it has not happened. Several of my friends have the Karoo 2 and they seem to like it ok but honestly I don't know if it really has much to distinguish itself from Garmin and Wahoo offerings at a similar price point.

Good chance I’ll be based in LA come November. Not looking forward to that commute to work.

Going price for Karoo 2 is $399. I suspect his "friends/family" bro deal is still going to be about $300 which is more than I care to spend at the moment.

Yeah, I wouldn't spring for that with a perfectly good computer already on-hand, but if I mine were to get lost or broken and I needed a replacement of some kind, anyway? Sure.
