That's quick. What's the road surface like? I despise the loud whir of losing speed via CRR on the roads by my workplace. Noise equals loss. There's one patch of fresh blacktop about 1mi long. Every time I hit it either direction I swear I have to change gears, no change in gradient.

Road surface is generally very good. There are a few rough patches but you can get through them quickly and with minimal loss if you know the lines. Also, shutout to wktmeow for helping! Matt was previously part of our squad until his child came along. The order was Kev getting us up to speed before the segment, then Matt on his roadbike doing a 1' power test, then Cody, then me. The three of us were to finish off the effort.

2x30ish yesterday. Dump truck cut me off 5 minutes in but then I got to draft off it doing 40mph which was really fun. Goldencheetah is pegging my CP at an all-time high in raw and w/kg terms. GC's CP calculation stuff is kind of a black box to me though, the value on the summary panel is significantly higher than the CP panel, and the one on the CP panel is a wattage I've held for more than 1.5hrs pretty recently. Anyway, hopefully can keep it up until 2021...

Gyms are closed and we are working out at home. I purchased a specialty piece of equipment that we use almost daily at the gym, when open. My thinking is...Hey if it shows up in two weeks and the gyms reopen, I will send it back. I am hoping that my commitment to this purchase will act in the same way as when I get my car washed and we need rain. It seems to rain the next day.

Managed 24.4 for 2hrs doing a very, very flat tempo ride going back and forth on a 6.5mi stretch of road. The route was basically for the novelty, I don't think I've even broken 24 for a solo hour before, so 24+ for 2 is lol. Tis the season for silly ****.
This was on an 2015 SL5 Tarmac Expert with aluminum wheels. I can only imagine how much speed was lost not being on an S-works SL7. So much shame.

My Caad10 with gatorskins and training wheels is a good 1-2 mph slower than the Scott Foil with Aeolus 5s and gp5000s. Somewhere in the 30-40 watt advantage at steady state z2 (20-22 mph). This is just looking at similar wind condition days on strava with the same watts. I need to bring both bikes out in the same conditions but the top end sprint speed I think is even greater.

Ahh I was just poking fun at the sl7. My bike has Aeroflys and the rims are aeroish so I would guess I'm really not losing all that much, I think most drag associated with aero vs non aero bikes is the cockpit and wheels. I suppose I could grab more speed if I rode my Rovals CLX60s instead of my aluminum rims, and wore a skinsuit.
The 2hrs was ~300w.
The 2hrs was ~300w.

Just had a recovery week in the middle of my short power build progression. It was fine, feel kind of sluggish though, definitely much different than how awesome I felt a few weeks ago at the end of the sweet spot progression I did, which had me deeper in TSB than this phase has me. Ramp test Tuesday, not really anticipating any changes, but we'll see!

I was so pissed Saturday. Went for a ride to see if I found a new close to home TT practice lap. Nope. Blind turn in a bad spot. No good. No biggie, let's just ride this thing for fun. Then, the brand new poles start slipping in the clamps. I bet they are just painted instead of coated meaning a smaller OD. I did the trick of a layer of tape and back in the clamp. Back in business. Still pissed it ruined a ride though.
Sunday ride was better. A really hilly rolling loop for TT, but great workout loop. Great workout loop for staying in aero downhill in corners and working your power to stay fast over rollers. I made a little lap course out of it and did enough laps to exceed 10mi. It came out to 91 feet per mile elevation. I did the 11mi at close to 23.5mph. One lap was 24.5mph.
Traffic was low, I could stay aero and own my lane and bomb the hills and power over the rollers. I bet that's how pros are so freaking fast on hilly TT's. They can confidently bomb the downhill and "flatten" the hills. I'd bet they can flatten larger rollers due to their much faster speed and much higher power too. When you start ascending a roller at 35 to 40mph instead of 25.....you wind up making it almost over without slowing down to a crawl.
Never imagined I could hold that amount of speed on that kind of elevation. Proud of that one. TT bike, but road helmet, road wheels, road kit. I'm guessing one mph for full race kit.

17 hours of almost all Zone 2. I'm 15 pounds overweight....that is, I'm 'skinny' to Americans but 15 over my race weight. I am going under the assumption we're racing in January so I'd like to be close enough to race weight in the Fall to not have to count calories.

3 sets of 3 2.5 minute vo2 intervals last night. They actually felt pretty good. Not really training for anything at this point though, the only race I had my calendar was cancelled (Barry Roubaix). Ill probably continue to do similar workouts on tuesdays anyways.

back into the short power plan this week, ramp test tuesday stunk, too hot and humid (80 degrees, 70% humidity), endurance yesterday was good, today was 5x11min intervals starting with 130% for 30sec settling into 95%, tough but doable, fortunately, it was still near 80 but in the 50% humidity range. It's crazy how much harder 95% feels vs 90-92% for me

Finally able to put together a consistent week. I should be able to crack 60ctl this week if I can stick to the program.

Trainer talk
Posting here as well...
Is there anything other than wahoo I should be looking at if I'm buying a direct drive trainer? With residency stuff, it's pretty easy to justify missing workouts with the hours etc. Id love to just be able to jump on the trainer for like an hour or so before work and not have to worry about flatting and getting late or anything. Id rather ride outside after work or on the weekend when its not stressful... I recall reading that wahoo had a bit of a **** show recently with issues for their units. Are the Saris ones any better? Any other recs?

I have a cycleops hammer (gen 1) and I consider it one of the best purchases I've ever made. It's so solidly reliable and from my perspective is better than wahoo products. Tacx and Elite might be worth looking at for their direct drive options as well, Tacx Neo of course is a premium product and I find Elite makes so many new products that I'm not sure how good their ongoing support for products is (Saris/Cycleops has made improvements to the original Hammer, but I believe they've all been on essentially the same firmware since the original came out in 2016). Anyhow, I wholeheartedly recommend Saris as a great option.

If I get a new smart trainer, I want the one that the TheKillerPenguin has since he can log 20+ hour weeks on it.

Fiesta yesterday for yet another TTT. 31:30 20K 23.1 mph. We cut is short but could have kept that pace up for 40K.
Yesterday was the day for records at Fiesta. It was humid, warm and lighter winds. I suspect the RHO and wind combination was about as good as it gets at Fiesta. I think the next couple of days will be good as well for fast times since we are experiencing warmer nights so an early morning record attempt would be good. Of course, traffic is another matter.

lots of bike time, yesterday was 90min endurance then 2hrs on bike path with kid (6 TSS lol), today was a workout called Broken Finger +1, it's a bit of a hodgepodge of stuff, but essentially 3x14min with 2min 112%, 2.5min 104%, 3min 95% then back up to 112, this was followed by some 4min intervals with a vo2 power 1min start and then threshold for remainder. With no CX races for 2020 (probably) I can at least tell myself I would have been in fabulous shape for it lol

I broke my first Direto but they replaced it for free. Second one has operated flawlessly.

I am at the tail end of a block and my legs are behaving as one would expect, which is to say I don't really know if they'll be good or not on the day or even at certain points during the ride. I did a bit over 5hrs today and aimed for some FTP work. The first interval was fine and nowhere near maxed out, but my legs were too dead for the second one and I wound up doing tempo instead. Then the last one at 4.5hrs went really great (factoring in hours and kj burned on the day). Probably gas station lemonade that saved the day.
